The Plaridel United Football Club (PUFC) traces its roots back to 2009, when varsity teammates from MSU-IIT, Caloy Magsayo and Petts Gerald Umbac, together with former Sangguniang Bayan Member Allan Laput, came together with a simple but meaningful vision: to give the youth of Plaridel a chance to grow through football.
Guided by Mr. Laput’s strong advocacy for athlete development and grassroots sports, the group began training young players and building a modest yet purposeful platform for learning and discipline. This marked the birth of the Plaridel Football Club (PFC).
In its early years, PFC quickly made its presence felt. The club earned multiple accolades from local tournaments and leagues, achieving early success on the field. More importantly, beyond trophies and titles, PFC helped shape young athletes—some of whom later earned full scholarships at respected colleges and universities. These achievements became a quiet testament to the club’s deeper mission: developing character, opportunity, and potential.
As the years passed, life took its natural course. Alumni players moved on—starting families, pursuing careers, and seeking opportunities both locally and abroad. Gradually, the club went on hiatus, leaving behind only a handful of high school players and a small group of dedicated alumni who still carried the love for the game.
On 1 June 2022, Earl Nisnisan, a fellow Plaridelian and resident of Eastern Looc, recognized the gap left behind and felt a deep concern for the future of football in Plaridel. Believing that the legacy was worth reviving, he initiated a meeting with one of the club’s founders, Mr. Petts Gerald Umbac, along with respected alumnus Alex Rayos Jr. Together, they agreed to breathe new life into the program.
With renewed purpose and a restructured vision—one that actively involves the community, local businesses, the LGU, and schools—the club was reborn as Plaridel United Football Club (PUFC). Just days after its revival, on 11 June 2022, PUFC marked a meaningful comeback by winning the championship at the Manukan Football Tournament in Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte.
Today, PUFC remains grounded in its roots while looking forward. The club is focused on building strong partnerships with local businesses, promoting shared growth and community support. Through football clinics and grassroots programs, PUFC continues its mission to nurture young talents and bring football education closer to the barangays, in collaboration with the LGU.
This journey is not about past glory—it is about moving forward together.
