Name: Himalayan Blackberry
Latin Name: Rubus armeniacus
Origin: Eurasia
The Himalayan Blackberry is a perennial shrub, that is native to Eurasia. Stems grow to 15 ft. (4.6 m) before arching and trail the ground for up to 40 ft. (12.2 m).
How it spreads: Once established, it can spread rapidly into undisturbed sunny areas, displacing native herbaceous plants and shrubs. Plants spread by seed or by older canes arching over to root several feet from the original plant.
Native vegetation growing under the Himalayan blackberry becomes highly suppressed from shading and crowding.
To prevent the invasion of Himalayan Blackberry you have to cut down canes to the point where it's above the ground and dispose of the rhizomes or spot treat the tips of the canes with herbicide.
