The Mississippi River Delta is a vast expanse along the Southern Coast of Louisiana made up of estuary and marshland. The Delta-X mission is a 5-year NASA Earth Venture that studies and tracks the Mississippi river Delta's water, vegetation, and sediment from space. They have been able to discover so many aspects of the growth and diminishment of the delta. Over the past few decades, the bathymetry of the river has been in a constant and astonishing decline. Based off the information gathered by Delta-X, the delta disappears at a rate of a football field per 100 minutes. They have been able to illustrate the impact that the environment has on the Delta over time.
Delta- A landform created by deposition of sediment that is transported by a river and enters a stagnant body of water.
Estuary- The mouth of a large river where the tide meets the stream.
