PLANET FORMATION GROUP

Welcome!

The Planet Formation Group is a research group dedicated to theoretical and computational models of planet formation. We study a wide range of growth stages in the formation of planets: the growth of dust grains to pebbles, the formation of planetesimals (e.g. by the streaming instability), rapid planetary accretion (e.g. by pebble accretion), the assembly of planetary systems, the differentiation of young planets and the outgassing of the first atmosphere. This work is relevant for understanding the origin of the planets of the Solar System as well as the vast amount of exoplanets that have been discovered around other stars.

The group is led by Professor Anders Johansen (with Associate Professor Michiel Lambrechts as independent PI). We are hosted at the StarPlan section of the Globe Institute of the University of Copenhagen and at the Division of Astrophysics at the Department of Physics at Lund University.
