Dial 911 on campus to be directed to UGAPD in emergencies.
It is 1.5 mg of levonorgestrel and works by stopping or delaying ovulation.
You may take Plan B up to 72 hrs (3 days) after unprotected sex, but you should take it ASAP for the highest effectiveness.
It does not work if you are already pregnant or if ovulation has occurred, and it does not terminate an existing pregnancy or cause abortion.
Meant as a backup and not to be a replacement for regular birth control.
Heat will cause the active ingredient, levonorgestrel, to break down and become ineffective. Don't leave any birth control or contraception medication outside in the heat or in a hot car!
If you are over 165 lbs, Plan B may not be effective. Medications like Ella (ulipristal acetate) are more effective for those between 165 and 195 lbs (Ella requires a prescription, so it may be more costly. Consider an IUD or LARC, like Nexplanon, as an alternative). If you weigh over 195 lbs, consider Nexplanon (etonogestrel) or IUDs through the Clarke Health Dept.
