PlaceCapture ("the app") is developed by MindMerge ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app accesses and what happens to it.
DATA THE APP ACCESSES ON YOUR DEVICE
Camera - used to take the photo you pin to a location. Stored only in the app's local storage; never leaves your device.
Precise location (GPS) - used to record the coordinates, accuracy and address of each pin, and to show pins on the map and point you back to them. Coordinates are sent to two free, no-login third-party services at the moment you capture a pin: your device's own geocoding service (to turn coordinates into a street address) and Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com, to record the weather at that moment). Neither service receives your name, account or any identifying information, only the coordinates for that one request.
Microphone - used only while you are actively recording a voice note for a pin, and only if you start a recording. Stored only in the app's local storage; never leaves your device.
Motion sensors (compass and tilt) - used to keep the on-screen camera guide level and point the "find my spot" arrow. Never leaves your device.
Photos, voice notes, pin titles and descriptions you enter - this is the content of your pins. Stays on your device unless you choose to share a pin (see below).
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SHARE A PIN
Sharing is manual: the app never sends a pin anywhere unless you tap Share and pick a destination. Sharing a pin hands the photo, the pin's name, and a Google Maps link (and the voice note's audio file, if there is one) to your device's normal share sheet, so it goes only to the app or contact you pick, such as WhatsApp, Messages, or email. We do not operate a server that receives or stores shared pins.
DATA WE DO NOT COLLECT
No account or sign-up - the app has no login.
No analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
No data is sold or shared with advertisers.
Nothing is uploaded to servers we operate, except as described below for optional, user-initiated AI features, which are not enabled in this release.
AI FEATURES (NOT ENABLED IN THIS RELEASE)
The app contains code for optional AI-assisted features (photo analysis, natural-language search, PDF reports, day recaps, voice-note transcription) that are turned off in this build. If a future release turns them on, this policy will be updated first to disclose that photos and voice notes you choose to analyze are sent to our server, which forwards them to Anthropic (Claude) and/or OpenAI for processing, governed by those providers' own privacy policies.
LOCAL STORAGE
Pins (photos, voice notes, titles, descriptions, coordinates) are stored only in the app's local storage on your device, using your device's standard app sandboxing. Uninstalling the app deletes this data. The app does not back pins up to any cloud service.
PERMISSIONS AND HOW TO REVOKE THEM
You can review or revoke Camera, Location, and Microphone permissions at any time in your device's system Settings for the app. Revoking a permission disables the related feature (for example, revoking Location prevents capturing new pins, since every pin needs a location) but does not delete pins you already saved.
CHILDREN
The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We will update this page when the app's data practices change, and update the "Last updated" date above.
