Paul Guernsey (Euro-American) grew up in the Bay Area of California on Ohlone land. He is a postdoctoral scholar at Pennsylvania State University's Humanities Institute. He received his PhD from the University of Oregon in Environmental Sciences, Studies, and Policy, focusing on Native studies and environmental philosophy and policy. He was also an active student and teacher in the Philosophy, Geography, Sociology, and Ethnic Studies Departments. He graduated with an M.A. in Philosophy from the University of California Santa Cruz in 2009. From 2008-2011 he worked in the Navajo Nation as an environmental educator, coordinating land revitalization and community healing projects through culturally significant plants and first foods.

Paul’s current work focuses decolonizing criticism on Western environmental philosophy and policy. He engages themes of ecocide, environmental justice, posthumanism, animality, food sovereignty, and critical environmental phenomenology.
