Advanced Infrastructure Materials (AIM) Laboratory

Welcome to the Advanced Infrastructure Materials (AIM) Lab at IIT Madras!

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Madras (Chennai, India). I am fortunate to be a member of the Building Technology, Construction Materials and Management (BTCM)  group in the Department of Civil Engineering. My research group focuses on applying the principles of materials science, life-cycle assessment, and structural engineering to design sustainable building materials. I am also part of TLC2 research group at IIT Madras. Before joining IIT Madras, I was a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  I obtained my Ph.D. (2015) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, M.S. (2010) from Clarkson University, and B.Tech. (2007) from NIT Warangal (India), all degrees in Civil Engineering. I hail from Almora, a scenic place on the foothills of Himalayas in Uttarakhand.

I am always looking for motivated students. Please email me at pchaunsali[at]iitm[dot]ac[dot]in with your CV if you are interested in working with me. I can also be reached at +91 44 2257 4256.
