Meet Katy Codella, the owner and operator of PixiDust. Katy lives in Fuquay Varina with her husband and four, that's right FOUR, wild but beautiful little boys. Katy worked in the IT industry for over a decade before becoming a stay at home mom. When PixiDust was created, her boys were 2, 4, 6, and 8.

How did you come up with the name PixiDust?

When one of the boys was little, Katy was changing his diaper, using a heavenly scented (but pricey) "dusting powder", aka baby powder. She thought up a business idea of making boutique baby powder, both for children and adults. Instantly, she thought up the name Pixie Dust. Within a week, she was driving down the road, and out of all the license plates in the world that could have been on the car in front of her, it read PIXIDUST. Though the business idea is totally different, we still think it fits perfectly!

What made you decide to create a cotton candy business?

Cotton candy sort of fell into Katy's lap. Apple season was upon us, and Katy had been making lots of candy apples, and her favorite, candy grapes. She thought that would be a good business to start, but storing the apples and getting them to last more than a day or so was a bit challenging. She was asked to coordinate a Fall event where cotton candy was going to be served. Instead of renting a machine, she decided to buy one, and the rest was history!
