Pothitos "Takis" Pitychoutis, Ph.D.

Associate Professor in Neuroscience & Neuroscience Minor Program Coordinator

Dr. Pothitos "Takis" Pitychoutis earned a B.Sc. in Biology from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece in 2005. In 2010 he was awarded an M.Sc. in Molecular Medicine/Neurobiology and a Ph.D. in Neuropsychopharmacology from the Medical School of the same University, under the mentorship of the late Professor Emerita of Pharmacology, Dr. Zeta Papadopoulou-Daifoti. The next year he served as junior lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology of the Medical School of Athens and afterwards he pursued postdoctoral training at INSERM UMR-839, Institut du Fer à Moulin in Paris (France) in the lab of Dr. Luc Maroteaux on the basis of a Neuropôle de Recherche Francilien (NeRF) fellowship, and at the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens, Greece (BRFAA). In 2013 Dr. Pitychoutis joined the Department of Biology as an Assistant Professor in Neuroscience, and established the Neuroscience laboratory at the Department of Biology. He is currently serving as tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Biology and he is affiliated with UD's Premedical Programs, the Center for Tissue Regeneration and Engineering at Dayton (TREND) and the Integrative Science and Engineering (ISE) center at UD. Dr. Pitychoutis has extensive experience mentoring students, at both the undergraduate and graduate level and teaches upper-level lecture and lab courses in neuroscience, physiology, and neuropsychopharmacology.
