Only players who have signed up via LevelUp's website or phone app can play at the LevelUp gym sessions.
Only players who have signed up via OpenSports (listed in the Check-In section) can play at the respective Pisa Cheswick gym and the Monroeville gym sessions. This rule is to prevent overcrowding and to ensure every attending player contributes to the Club's badminton shuttle cost (shuttles are provided by our Pittsburgh badminton club). Please sign up for sessions only if you reasonably sure you will attend. The reason is simple: If too many players cancel on the last day before the session, our Club admins may lose gym rent money and/or bird funds. For attendance at the Pisa Cheswick and the Monroeville gym, cancellations are only refunded if they are triggered at least 48 hours prior to session start.
Separately, for Club announcements and general notifications / communication (Pittsburgh badminton only) to the entire club community, we use the WhatsApp Group 'Pittsburgh Badminton Club' (over 300 participants). To get included in the group, please contact Venkat (only for active Pittsburgh area badminton players).
Pittsburgh Badminton Club Attendees need to
enter the gym with clean shoes
wear proper footwear
wear proper excercise clothes
keep using the same bird after each game till the bird is no longer playable and needs changed
be courteous to others (no swearing, bullying, physical altercation)
do not leave any trash behind (e.g. bottles, other)
do not leave any own belongings when exiting the gym
do not damage any equipment (hitting the net, tramping on shuttles, clashing with other players' racquets)
use the rest rooms properly
never trash birds that are still in good play condition
General:
If you wait too long (e.g. more than 15 minutes) for your turn to play, wait till a game finishes and clearly indicate, you want to play.
If more than 3 players of the same play level are waiting for their turn, please have all 4 players rotating out once you finish your game to ensure all players get a decent amount of games during each session.
Please be very careful how you handle the feather birds. Preferably, nobody should consume more than one bird per 15 minute of continuous play. If you finish a game, and the bird is still in good condition (less than 3 feathers are broken), please do not trash it, leave it for the next players to continue with. Just because a new game starts, does not mean a brand new bird should be used, if the bird of the previous court occupants still flies well enough to continue with.
Never put birds back into the tubes in reverse order.
At Hampton Twp gym in specific:
The session organizer will seed thru used birds at the end of each session, to determine which ones should be trashed or kept for the next session.
Players should be self-aware of their play level: E.g. it would be inadequate for an advanced player to insist in playing against beginners, unless all court players agree to, and vice versa. This is to prevent games to finish too quickly for doubles teams to enjoy.
Report any net pole, net, flooring, lights damage to front desk staff / play session head, immediately.
Nets:
Never knot the net strings.
Never pull the net too tight.
Never touch or hit the net and poles during games
Never pull the poles with excessive force, bending them.
Replacement value in case of damage caused: 800$ per court
Flooring mats at LevelUp gym:
Non marking clean shoes.
No shuttle stickers.
No rolling of carts, dollies, equipment.
No pulling of mats
No spilling, spitting, writing, markings, dropping of piercing or scratching objects.
Replacement value in case of damage caused: 5000$ per court (including disposal and labor cost)
Cleaning of flooring mats at LevelUp gym:
Never use an abrasive, dirty broom.
Only use approved designated cleaning equipment for the badminton mats.
At Hampton/Pisa/Monroeville gyms: No Singles games unless there is sufficient court space left (e.g. no other players are waiting for their turn to play).
