Advanced Topics in Computing:
quantum computing and machine learning
Learning Objectives
The aim of this course is to provide a comprehensive overview of the novel and up-and-coming quantum information technologies, associated with machine learning and cryptography, that are expected to power a multi-billion-dollar industry in the foreseeable future. This course will emphasize the following key topics:
Introduction to quantum information science (2 weeks).
Variational quantum algorithms and quantum optimization (2 weeks).
First-principle theory of deep learning and scaling laws (2 weeks).
Quantum error correction and fault-tolerance (2 weeks).
Quantum repeaters and quantum networks (2 weeks).
Post-quantum cryptography (2 weeks).
The course project will consist of submitting a research proposal and presenting the corresponding research idea on any chosen technology or application.
