This seminar will focus on health psychology, epidemiology, and behavioral medicine research in pregnant and postpartum populations. We aim to highlight the importance of collaboration and benefit of multidisciplinary perspectives in addressing clinical research questions related to health and health behavior across the perinatal period. We will illustrate how epidemiologic methods, including causal inference approaches, can inform the design and evaluation of behavioral interventions to promote maternal health. Brief presentations (10-20 minutes each) will highlight clinical research questions related to health behaviors, specifically sleep and eating-and weight-related behaviors that impact cardiovascular health during pregnancy and across the postpartum year, and discuss the design, development and deployment of behavioral interventions in these populations. Following these presentations, attendees will engage in facilitated discussions about the challenges, opportunities, and new ideas related to studying perinatal health.
