PiTaRaTa ("we", "our", or "the app") is a free mobile application that provides information and a community noticeboard for Sri Lankans living and working abroad. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
By using PiTaRaTa, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
We collect only the information needed to run the app and its community features.
Information you provide:
Email address — when you create an account to post content (jobs, housing, proposals, events, cargo, and other listings).
Password — stored securely in encrypted (hashed) form. We cannot see your actual password.
Content you post — text, contact details (phone/WhatsApp numbers), and photos you choose to include in your listings.
Country selection — the country you choose so we can show you relevant local information.
Information collected automatically:
Basic technical data — such as your country/region setting, used to display the correct news, weather, and listings for your location.
We do not collect your precise GPS location, contacts, or device identifiers for advertising.
We use your information only to:
Create and manage your account.
Let you post and view community listings.
Show you relevant information based on your selected country (news, weather, exchange rates, listings).
Review and approve content before it is shown publicly, to protect users from spam and scams.
Respond to reports of inappropriate or fraudulent content.
We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
Listings you submit (and any contact details or photos you include) are reviewed by our administrators and, once approved, are visible to all users of the app. Please do not include sensitive personal information you do not want others to see. You are responsible for the content you post.
If you choose to add a photo to a listing, it is uploaded to our secure storage and shown with your listing once approved. Only add photos you have the right to share.
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a third-party backend service that hosts our database, user accounts, and file storage. Data is protected by access controls and industry-standard security practices. Passwords are encrypted and are never stored in readable form.
PiTaRaTa uses the following third-party services to function:
Supabase — database, user authentication, and photo storage.
Open-Meteo — weather information (no personal data is shared).
ExchangeRate-API — currency exchange rates (no personal data is shared).
YouTube links — some content (e.g. cricket) may link to YouTube; opening a link is subject to YouTube's own privacy policy.
These services may process limited technical data as needed to provide their function.
To keep the community safe:
Listings are reviewed by administrators before being published.
Users can report content that appears to be a scam, false, or inappropriate.
We may remove content or accounts that violate our standards.
Information in listings (such as visa, document, or emergency contact details) is provided for general guidance only and may not always be current. Always confirm important information with official sources.
You can:
Edit or delete the content you have posted.
Request deletion of your account and associated personal data by contacting us (see Section 11).
Stop using the app at any time.
When you request account deletion, we remove your account and personal data, except where we are required to keep certain information for legal or safety reasons.
PiTaRaTa is intended for adults (18 years and older). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
