I am an interdisciplinary marine and wildlife conservationist with a focus on local ecological knowledge, environmental sustainability, and fish systematics. My primary approach involves integrating traditional wisdom and experiential understanding of ecosystems through local community knowledge. I actively engage and involve local communities in my work using participatory research methods.
In my current role as a project associate, I am investigating the ichthyological biodiversity of Ganges River Dolphin hotspots in India.
My previous work, 'Fishers' Knowledge of Guitarfish in the Sundarbans, India', was funded by The Habitats Trust. In that project, I collected baseline data on the guitarfishes and wedgefishes of the Sundarbans, using the ecological knowledge of local fishers. I identified the ecological, social and economic dependence of the region's fishers on these species, using a holistic ecosystem approach.
