We have met the Axetail Battleswine, a ferocious and aggressive omnivore. Not all centaurs are like this, some are massive and relatively gentle. The clade of Dracoelephanti are said centaurs, having massive ranges in Gaia as well as all of Shelterea and Northern Aletia. Massive hulking centaurs who's large noses have adjusted to being trunks, as their arms are too stubby and to function as anything other than sensory and pushing organs.
On said species of this clade are the Steppe Rooks. Like the name "Dracoelephanti" suggests, they are elephant analogues. This species inn particular is rather akin to a Columbian or Steppe Mammoth. Traveling in small tight-knit social herds of twenty individuals, cooperating to make sure each individual eats. Their massive trunks are able to dig up several pounds of grass, while their arms neatly hold it as storage. Allowing them to eat while on the move.
Their cooperative nature also extends outwards from their species, as these small herds are accompanied by larger herds of pegasi or smaller centaurs. However this comes at a dark price, the Rook herds look out for predators while their companions safely eat. Though once the predator appears, the Rooks alarm them while grabbing one of their companions in their trunks. Once the predator is near, they throw this individual towards the predators to feed them. While it may seem cruel, one lost individual can protect a whole herd.
But where there is animals to sacrifice, the Rook fights back which is where they get their name from. This form of combat is mostly charging in a straight line, however they cannot make sharp turns while on the run. Essentially acting like a rook in chess, power while charging ahead but can be countered by simply stepping right. However soon the planet will warm up, producing a species of plant that they have no adaptations to eat. Taking over the vast steppes and even the Moss-Forests, while also giving rise to a new clade of giant centaurs. Ones that can turn and move, like a queen in chess.
