I have purchased PCTV HD Pro Stick (801e) from best buy, it is a very very poor quality. When i used with PIV XP Dell Laptop, the laptop heated up within 15 minutes, they i continued to use, in the long run it will harm the laptop i believe. The laptop heated up in such a way we can make tea on it. If i remove this stick, Laptop worked very well, it did not heated up. If you record for more that 30 minutes, it will not record well.

When i tried with the high end system to certain extent it failed miserably. I had the following configuration.

Using KDE desktop and trying to use the captioned stick on my laptop. Never had any experience with PCTV of any kinds and instructions in the box not much use as they are intended for windoze. Do I need linux drivers, special software or firmware?

Is there a guide anywhere?

PCTV DVB-S2 Stick (461e) is a handy high-end USB stick to receive high definition digital satellite TV. It makes reception of HDTV and SDTV possible via DVB-S2 and DVB-S. It is the successor of the PCTV 460e model that is not for sale any more. Both models are externally the same, but different components are used inside.

This is not a PCI board or a big external device, it's justa small stick (around 1 1/4 x 2 3/4 inches), with a USB connector at one end anda TV antenna input (F-connector) at the other. There's also an A/V adaptor cablewith inputs for composite video (RCA), S-Video, and stereo audio (3.5mmheadphone plug).

/dev/dvb is not existing (probably cause the stick was not recognized as a dvb stick and the firmware message is not shown, probably cause the right firmware is not where it's supposed to be, /lib/firmware i guess..

the problem is that i don't know where can i get the firmware for ARM processor :/ do you have a clue?

I have a hybrid usb tv tuner which has anolg and digital signal. I have it about 5-6 years now but I never use it because it didn't find how to make it work on linux. I had an older pinnacle pctv hybrid usb tuner and I was using it, but it's broke now. So I give another shot to the newer device.

I tried both of your proposals (creating .config/modprobe.d/pinnacle-disable-ir.conf and echo "blacklist em28xx-rc" > /storage/.config/modprobe.d/blacklist.confand restarting the RPi, of course) but the behaviour of the remote (not all button pushes are recognized) has not changed as long as the DVB-stick is connected to the RPi. When I disconnect it - even while the RPi and Kodi are running - the recognition is immediately good!

That looks like you are running into RPi issue #906 Issues raspberrypi/linux GitHub (sorry, stupid forum software thinks I'm posting spam because the title of the bug report contains the censored word "sens*t*ve" - just add 906 at the end of the URL to get to the details). Heavy USB traffic, like it's generated by DVB sticks, can interfere with proper operation of GPIIO IR receivers. Unfortunately there's no solution to that.

Since your DVB stick has an IR receiver built in the best solution would be to use that, and disable the GPIO IR receiver (either by uncommenting the dtoverlay line in config.txt or by disabling lirc in LibreELEC settings).

The Pinnacle PCTV HD Pro Stick is a good little stick to view HD content on your computer. Yet there is much more to be desired in respects to the software that is included with the device. The software cripples the hardware; it is very buggy and very slow. It leaves you with a sour taste.

It you are a gadget person of if you like to play with emerging technology then your disposable income and excess capacity of free time could well be expended on the Pinnacle PCTV HD Ultimate stick package.

Keep in mind that the PCTV HD Ultimate stick does double duty. It can also digitize analog sources. So if you have a legacy analog video recorder, or a VHS tape deck with video and audio outputs, or really any source with S-video, or composite video and audio out then the device can digitize it. This may be an opportunity for you to take those old VHS tapes and get them copied to modern media. 006ab0faaa
