Ms. Pineda's ELA 8 Class

Hello! Welcome to Ms. Pineda's ELA website. On this site both students and parents can get information about what is happening in the class.

A little about myself: This is my 6th year teaching ELA and my fourth year at Hillview Junior Year. Previous years I have taught at a middle school in South Los Angeles. I got my Bachelors in Liberal Arts at San Francisco State University and got both my masters and credential at University of California Los Angeles. I chose to teach English because I love reading and enjoy using writing as a way for students to discover their identities.

On my free time I love to read books and watch movies\shows. My favorite books growing up was the Harry Potter series, The Outsiders, and Hunger Games. For movies, I love anything that is disney, marvel, or with action. When I am on breaks I love traveling to new places, some favorite places I have visited so far are Tokyo and London.

Class: As 8th graders you all are only one year away from graduating middle school and continuing your education in high school. So excited to get to know, learn, and grow with you all this year!

This year in English we will go over multiple themes and through these we will be answering these questions: “What attracts us to stories of suspense?”, “What does our response to conflict say about us?”, and “How can life experience shape our values?”

Students, I will accept nothing but your best in this class. I expect you to ask questions. I expect you to be honest with me. I expect that you will respect your peers and I expect that you will respect me. I will be honest with you. I will always make time to answer your questions. I will respect you. If you are achieving less than a C in my class, I will expect to come talk to me outside of class for extra help.
