Chatsworth
Chatsworth, like the beautiful place it is named after, is full of the colors of the Pine Barrens sugar sand. It is a creamy white, 100% alpaca, 2-ply DK weight yarn. It takes dye extraordinarily well and has a wonderful drape. The alpacas that produce this yarn are raised in Folsom, NJ, just down the street from the Great Egg Harbor River and its expansive watershed. It is 3.7 oz per skein and 200 yards.
Batsto
Batsto is the first and signature line of Pine Barrens Yarn Company. It is 65% alpaca and 35% merino wool, and all sourced from animals grown locally in South Jersey. The Batsto River runs directly through the Pine Barrens and offers both soothing and captivating sport -- just like this yarn. This yarn is firm, durable and very dyeable. Each skein is approximately of this DK sport yarn is 258 yards and weighs 105 grams.
Oswego
Oswego is the sister yarn to Chatsworth. It is 100% alpaca, 2-ply DK weight. It is is named Oswego after one of the three major rivers that travel through the Pine Barrens. Rivers in South Jersey are cedar water, and have a slightly darker color. It takes dye extraordinarily well and has a wonderful drape. The alpacas that produce this yarn are raised in Folsom, NJ, just down the street from the Great Egg Harbor River and its expansive watershed. It is 3.7 oz per skein and 200 yards.
Wharton
This is Wharton, a limited edition yarn produced in South Jersey. It is 65% Rose Grey Alpaca and 35% Merino wool. It produces a beautiful hand -- the drape of alpaca and the sturdiness of the wool. It is a 2 ply yarn that is 105 grams and 258 yards per skein. The name comes from the Wharton State Forest, a vast park located in the center of the Pine Barrens.
One of the newest editions to our lines of yarn, Atsion is 60% Huacaya Alpaca and 40% Gotland Wool. This combination gives it a beautiful heathered gray color with a lovely shine. It is a 2 ply DK yarn and is 150 yards per skein. It is 3.9 oz per skein. It is named after Atsion Lake outside of Hammonton and in the middle of the Wharton State Forest, a massive protected park of the Pine Barrens.
Batona Trail
PBYCl is pleased to introduce you to Batona Trail -- a yarn that is as soft as sugar sand and multi-faceted as the trail it is named after. The Batona Trail in the Wharton State Forest deep in the Pine Barrens is known for its beautiful colors and variations -- no two hikes on this trail are ever the same. Each skein is 150 yards and weighs 3.8 oz. It is a two ply DK yarn, made from two special sheep -- one white and own brown Icelandic. Both of these sheep have been birthing ewes for a local farm in South Jersey that is raising up purebred Blackface Valais Sheep. This skein is a heathered color with brown and white highlights.
Mullica
Mullica is a buttery, creamy Valais/Lincoln Longwool yarn. It is a 2 ply DK weight yarn. It is 150 yards per skein and each skein is 3.7 ounces. Blackface Valais are a rare sheep and very few are currently raised in the US. They have long, luxurious locks and produce a buttery colored wool. This wool takes dye well and knits wonderfully. It is named Mullica after one of the three beautiful rivers that run through the Pine Barrens. All Pine Barrens Yarn Co products are raised and processed within 150 miles of the New Jersey Fibershed.
