Great Smoky Mountain National Park
Great Smoky Mountain National Park is the most-visited national park in the United States,
encompassing 522,419 acres. Within that expanse of forested land are mountain peaks, with
Clingman’s Dome being the highest at 6,643 feet, deep valleys and rushing streams, all waiting
for you to explore them. Scattered throughout are historic buildings, including the popular
pioneer homesteads at Cades Cove. With 800 miles of trails, there are plenty of opportunities
to for hiking, fishing and biking in this national treasure.
The town of Gatlinburg, located at the entrance to Great Smoky Mountain National Park, offers
a multitude of outdoor adventures as well as exciting entertainment. You can cross the longest
pedestrian Skybridge in the United States, ride to the top of Anakeesta Mountain on a
chondola, or take the Ober Gatlinburg Aerial Tram for a different mountain adventure. In
addition, you can find opportunities to zip line, raft, play golf or fish in the many streams in the
area. Check out some of the many shops and attractions that line main street.
Pigeon Forge has something for everyone. For those looking for outdoor fun, there are exciting
mountain coasters, zip lines, miniature golf and go-carts, along with tubing on the Little River in
Townsend during the warmer months. Visit Dollywood or see one of the many shows and
attractions along the Parkway through the heart of town. For the adults, try one of the spas,
wine tasting, distilleries and breweries. Take in a dinner show or check out a museum. And
there are plenty of great restaurants to choose from.
