The chemical process industry is on the verge of a revolution under the current environmental norms and climate change being highly evident. Therefore, the outlook of the process industry is towards sustainability. In order to develop sustainable processes, it is important to increase its efficiency, reduce waste generation, have efficient energy utilisation and economics. All these are achieved with process intensification and novel materials. This forms the vision and mission of the group "To develop novel technologies for a sustainable future".
The Process Intensification and Advanced Materials (π-NAM) Laboratory is currently based in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu. The focus of our group is to develop intensification units for chemical processing. We also try to develop nanomaterials and advanced materials for multiple applications. The projects that we work on range form developing new designs of digesters from biogas units, that will me make it more efficient, portable and hopefully be able to replace the LPG cylinder, to advanced methods for separation of high value chemicals from wastes, thus helping us solve our every growing solid waste problems.
