10 years ago, On December 8, 2010, Ki/oon Music Inc. released a Vocaloid for the VOCALOID 2 engine named "Utatane Piko (歌手音ピコ)" or CodenamePIKO(開発コードPIKO). His name means "Sound of the Singer Piko" as a reference to the fact he is voiced by the Famous Japanese singer and Utaite PIKO. For his overall design concept, Piko has the same hair style as his Voice provider except for his "P" cowlick. His white hair is a reference to his Voice Provider's Character representatives. The rest of his design, such as his outfit and hetero chromatic eyes, is based off of the Yamaha RGX A2 Electric Guitar. Prior to being obtained by Ki/oon Music Inc., Utatane Piko was developed alongside companion Vocaloid SF-A2 Miki by the company Heartfast, before the company eventually closed.
Within a few days of his release, Crypton released the Kagamine Appends, possibly stealing attention away from the new vocaloid. Along with this, Ki/oon had poor marketing strategy, had strict rules for using his trial on top of that Utatane Piko's sell numbers didn't exactly met the quota or expectation the company was looking for. Because of this and the fact the V2 era soon ended, it seems as if the company had abandoned the poor Vocaloid, leaving fans without and feedback or notifications on the possible future for this Vocaloid. On May 23, 2017, Yamaha announced they will be distributing import serial codes for Utatane Piko to be imported to V3 and V4 editors after many years without one. In this year of his anniversary (2020), the very last physical copy of Utatane Piko had been sold, making him officially discontinued.
This year is very important for fans of Utatane Piko to come together and celebrate their beloved Vocaloid. Utatane Piko cannot truly die until his fans stop making art, stories, covers and songs with him. And that is the main purpose of this collaboration. To show that we all still love Utatane Piko.
Without them, none of this would even be possible.
