Gerry ~ When I first met Gerry she smiled bright and I actually curtsied which made her laugh because I was nervous. Being her caregiver has been such a blessing and she taught me a lot about myself and other people. She sat with me at the piano and we played a little. When I was playing Fur Elise one evening, there was a note I missed and she said "The Key is F, not G!" And I laughed which made her laugh. I will miss seeing her face and in the choir singing away to her hearts content. Oh and she loved loved her sweets! The time that some of us told her to walk to Dairy Queen to get her Dilly Bar and we would accompany her. Man, that was the best! ~ Katya
Don ~ I wanted to share these two memories of your Dad. Although I really didn’t know him well and haven’t seen him since 1970 he is a special cousin. When he got out of the Navy he stopped in St Joseph to see Clyde, our uncle who wasn’t much older than Don. I was somewhere between 8-10 years old. My folks and I went to Clyde and JoAnne’s to see him. While they were talking he reached down and picked up one of his white “sailor” hats. In black sharpie his last name was written on it. He put it on my head and told me it was mine. I kept that hat for years and years. It was one of my prized possessions.
The second event that meant so much to me occurred a little while after my oldest son was killed in an automobile accident. It was 1998. Darin was 29. Don wrote me a very kind and supportive letter that warmed my heart. Like his mother, Don was a kind hearted caring person. It was 7 years ago today my mother died. I feel your pain and share your love. ~ Dan Bryan
