The data generated from this study will aid in management decisions on the implementation of waterfront construction that impacts marine wetland areas, as well as, to work toward the improvement of waterfront construction design. 

A follow-up study in 2021-2022 assessed the shading effects under surviving and newly constructed piers. The potential scope of shading impacts were estimated for the entire MS coast. Finally recommendations on pier management and compliance were investigated.
