Unlike traditional planning methods typically led by professionals, Pictability™ puts youth in the driver’s seat. Through playful exploration they connect with what is truly important to them.
Pictability™ is a novel strength-based tool for youth coaches and educators to engage with youth in a playful manner to talk about their future. The Pictability™ experience is a proven method to create authentic and inspiring engagement. This is because this method speaks to the heart of youth who have been conditioned to think about what they are 'missing' or need to improve on. Pictability speaks the language that suppport youth to thrive by shining a light on a youth abilities and strengths, focus on the things they do well and opening the possibilities for a bright future. The experience provides them with a launching pad to get started with achieving some of their goals and grow their agency. It also clarifies what goals they will need professional help with thus providing a starting point for services. Pictability is shown to increase participants' readiness to engage with their coaches and educators!
The toolkit includes multiple cards and boards designed to support youth expanding on ideas to create deeper and more meaningful personal goals for themselves.
The Pictability™ visuals were co-designed with youth and families to build capacity and inspire wellbeing and flourishing (Adler & Seligman, 2016) – informed by evidence about how youth achieve their goals for a good life (Duffy, 2012; Mahmic & Janson, 2018)
