The Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers - Metro Manila East (PIChE MME) conducted its first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for this year under the established "Caring Hearts of Engineers" program last May 18, 2023. The event took place at the Meritxell Children’s World Foundation in Marikina City, bringing a day of joy and service to the children of the orphanage.
The program commenced with a solemn prayer by Engr. Mary Grace de Guzman, setting a reflective and hopeful tone for the day's activities. This was followed by a warm welcome address by the houseparent of Meritxell, Ms. Regine Magatines, greeting both the PIChE MME members and the children, eagerly anticipating the day's events.
An opening remark by CSR Committee Head, Engr. Francis Echavez highlighted the purpose of the reach-out program and the commitment of PIChE MME to community service. The atmosphere soon shifted to one of playful excitement as the emcee Engr. Yrona Eso announced the next segment which is composed of various games. Hosted by President Arline Del Mundo, members of PIChE MME and the children engaged in spirited competition and camaraderie. The fun escalated as the kids acted out and MME engineers outguessed each other during the “Pinoy Henyo Charade” segment.
The event's entertainment part featured heartfelt performances, starting with song numbers from the children of the orphanage. Their voices resonated with the audience, reflecting their joy and talent. Engr. Danielson Culaniban followed with a special song number, proving once and for all that when it comes to talent PIChE MME will not be left behind.
Another dance number by the children brought smiles and cheers, showcasing their enthusiasm and energy. As the performances concluded, everyone gathered for a shared lunch, fostering a sense of community and togetherness.
The highlight of the event was the gift-giving ceremony. PIChE MME members distributed gifts to the children, symbolizing their support and care. One of the children delivered a heartfelt message of gratitude, thanking PIChE MME for their time, resources, and kindness.
The day was marked by laughter, joy, and meaningful interactions, embodying the spirit of the Caring Hearts of Engineers program. It was a testament to the power of service and the impact of extending a helping hand to those in need. PIChE MME looks forward to more such initiatives, continuing to build a legacy of compassion and community support in the service of the Filipino people.
