Carolina Varela

Carolina Varela has an MSc in international cooperation for development at ISEG-Lisbon School of Economics and Management of the University of Lisbon. Her career started with international cooperation projects in Spain follow by a five year experience as a research manager, most recently as a pre-award advisor at the NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She is an active member of several Portuguese research managers and science communicators’ networks such as, the national network Plataforma de Interface à Ciência and the Lisbon network Finca Pé. Her research interests focuses on the comparative analysis and international benchmarking of RDI policies.
Claudia Oliveira

Claudia Oliveira is EU Adviser at l’Agence Bruxelloise pour l’Accompagnement de l’Entreprise (Brussels Agency for Business Support). She is a member of Enterprise Europe Network, as well as National Contact Point for Belgium for Horizon 2020. Claudia has extensive experience in Research Administration, and in helping both public & private entities boost their competitiveness. She has worked at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais – Universidade de Lisboa, as an International Funding Officer, and at the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, as Project Manager and Policy Officer. She has also served as an Expert evaluator for H2020 and is an active member of the national network Plataforma de Interface à Ciência. She holds both a BSc and an MSc in Political Science.
Cristina Luis

MUHNAC, CIUHCT and CIES-IUL
Cristina Luís is a postdoctoral researcher in the area of science communication and management. She holds a degree in Biology, a post-graduation in DNA Phylogenies and Genealogies and a PhD in Biology. Between 2007 and 2009 she was a postdoctoral researcher in the area of science promotion and management at CIES-IUL and between 2009 and 2014, she was assistant researcher at MUHNAC under the Science Program 2008 and was coordinator of the institution's project office. Currently develops research at MUHNAC, CIUHCT and CIES-IUL in the areas of citizen science, science communication, history of science and history of animal domestication. She has coordinated and participated in several research projects and scientific dissemination initiatives with national and international funding. She is the author of several scientific publications in international journals, books and book chapters, and numerous oral and panel presentations at national and international congresses. Promotes the dissemination of science and scientific heritage and participated in the organization of various exhibitions and events to promote scientific culture. She is an active member of the national network Plataforma de Interface à Ciência.
Cristina Machado Guimarães

Cristina Machado Guimarães has a PhD in General Management, Strategy and Entrepreneurship by ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL), MSc degree in Healthcare Services Management by the same institution (ISCTE-IUL) and a degree in Management (Catholic University of Porto). Author and co-author of International Journals publications and speaker at international conferences. She is Associated Gest Lecturer of in Management Master Courses at Universidade Católica Portuguesa – Católica Business School. With past professional experience in Industries (textile sector-10 years and healthcare sector- 7 years), works as Business Developer at INESC TEC Industrial Partnership Service, with healthcare industry, content, creative industries and digital media sectors. She was responsible for the creation of NEM Portugal – a mirror platform of the European NEM Initiative.

Cristina Oliveira is currently funding advisor at NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. With a scientific background in Science Teaching, Cristina has 10 years of experience working in several science managing aspects, from science communication and outreach activities at the Portuguese Funding Agency for S&T Culture, to EU project management and, on the last 4 years, as funding advisor specialized on grant writing support. Cristina is a MC member of COST BESTPRAC (as vice-manager of BESTPRAC Training Schools) and is an active member of the national network Plataforma de Interface à Ciência.
Filipa Soares Borrego

Management Innovation Coordinator | INOV INESC Inovação
Filipa is currently the Management Innovation Coordinator of INOV INESC Inovação and she is a founding member and coordinator of the national network Plataforma de Interface à Ciência. She has 7 years of experience in research management and administration. Previously, for 10 years, she was a researcher in electronics and telecommunication and was awarded her PhD in computer engineering in 2008. She was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar Researcher working on commercialization of early-stage technologies at the University of Texas, USA. She was also a Portuguese expert for the Committee of "Information and Communication Technologies" theme of the Horizon 2020 programme as well as delegate at "Electronic Components and Systems for European Leadership" Joint Undertaking Governing Board.
João Cortez

João Cortez did a PhD in Textile Chemistry, De Montfort Univ., Leicester, UK and developed a research career in nanotechnology applications and technical textiles. He established much collaboration with industry, developing products & processes. He participated as a Researcher in national and EU projects. He is the Head of INEB’s Technology Transfer Office since 2012, worked as Research Manager of FP7 and H2020 projects, and is now Head of Programmes at i3S, a pre-award unit. He is the Director of RESOLVE, a Technology Transfer programme focused on innovation in health. In addition, he is also a founding member and coordinator of the national network Plataforma de Interface à Ciência.
José Santos

Science Interface Professional | Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (IPB)
José holds a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering (Univ. Leeds, UK) and is a certified Professional Project Manager. Embracing science interface positions for the last 13 years, he has spent the last 6 year providing the Research Support Office at IPB and served previously as Senior Researcher at CeNTI (PT), Researcher at Univ. Pierre et Marie Curie (FR) and Univ. Leeds (UK), as European Projects Manager at FCT (PT) and as Lecturer at IPB. He also acts as expert evaluator for several European and National Funding Agencies. In addition, he is an active member of the national network Plataforma de Interface à Ciência.
Julio Borlido Santos

Júlio Borlido Santos is a biologist and science communicator. Over the years, he has taken part in many scientific culture initiatives and dissemination projects targeted to assorted audiences. Between 2003 and 2014 he was the head of IBMC.INEB Office for Science Communication to then, in 2015, take on the coordination of i3S (Institute for Research and Innovation in Health) Communication Unit. His extensive activity encompasses participation in projects of scientific culture dissemination, as well as research-action science communication projects funded both nationally and internationally. He organizes, promotes and teaches several advanced training for scientists on "Science, Ethics and Society" and other audiences. He is a founding member and coordinator of the national network Plataforma de Interface à Ciência and is a member of many other advisory boards.
Madalena Martins,

Research Manager/Head GREEN-IT Unit Research Management | ITQB NOVA, Universidade Nova de Lisboa
Madalena Heads the GREEN-IT R&D Unit Management coordinating all aspects of the management of this research consortium with ~150 researchers and is a Pre-Award Research Manager at ITQB NOVA Science Funding Office supporting the submission of successful funding proposals in life sciences. Her activities as an interface professional are grounded on a research career with a strong scientific track record (PhD in Biology). Madalena is a MC member of COST BESTPRAC, of EARMA’s PDRC Committee and the Co-coordinator of the Working Group - Mapping of the Community of Interface Professionals of the national network Plataforma de Interface à Ciência.
Margarida Trindade

Margarida has ten years of experience in research management, supporting individuals and institutions improving their grant portfolio by finding opportunities, helping planning and preparing applications/ contracts, editing and writing grants, and managing projects. She heads the ITQB NOVA Science Funding Office since 2016. Before she coordinated pre-award at ISCTE-IUL (business research), and IMM (biomedical research). She also acted as a trainer, evaluator (H2020 & FP7), assessor (EARMA Certification on Research Management) and advisor (H2020 MSCA). She is a founding member and coordinator of the national network Plataforma de Interface à Ciência. She obtained a PhD on Developmental Biology at the University College London in 2000.
Marta Agostinho

Marta Agostinho is the Coordinator of EU-LIFE, an alliance of 13 leading European research institutes in the life sciences that aims at promoting excellence and acting as a voice for research institutes in the European policy landscape. As Coordinator of EU-LIFE, Marta oversees the implementation of the strategy of the alliance. She is also an expert evaluator for H2020 and a founding member and coordinator of the national network Plataforma de Interface à Ciência. Marta has a PhD in the Life Sciences and 10 years’ experience in knowledge mediation in international settings and extensive experience in training and teaching. Previously, she was Director of a communication, funding and advanced training unit at a research institute; project manager of a large international policy consortium; and coordinator of teaching and training courses in communication and research management.
Sandra Aresta

Knowledge Transfer and Dissemination Officer | CIBIO-InBIO, Porto
Sandra Aresta has a degree in Microbiology and Genetics from the University of Lisbon and a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Paris XI University. After about 10 years of research both in academia (Institut Curie, Imperial College, CRCM-Marseille) and industry (Hybrigenics), in 2007 she made a career move into technology transfer by taking a position at Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, where she was in charge of all aspects concerning IP protection and management, and the negotiation of licensing deals. Since February 2017 she moved back to Portugal to put this experience to the benefit of CIBIO-InBIO, where she's responsible for promoting and facilitating connections with business corporations and the public administration.
Sheila Vidal

Sheila heads the Research Funding Affairs Unit at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência and is a founding member and coordinator of the national network Plataforma de Interface à Ciência. She has thirteen years of experience in the design & implementation of pre-award grant management strategies to successfully secure competitive funding in the Life Science domain at the individual and institution level. She has a global experience in research funding policies and regularly coordinates, lectures advanced training modules on grant development for researchers & at several Masters and PhD programmes. She is a member of the EU-LIFE Grants and Funding Working Group and the European Association of Research Manager and Administrators (EARMA). Sheila Vidal holds a PhD in Innate Immunity from the University Paris XI, France.
