Beatriz Fernandez

Beatriz is the Head of the Center of Research at ISPA - Instituto Universitário. The Center is a unit that manages all the activities related to competitive Research Funding and Management of research projects, namely: Pre-Award; Post-Award and Accounting. She is responsible for the implementation of the Pre-Award service, which she established in 2014 and as Head of the Unit; she coordinate a team of people in the Post-Award/Accounting administration. She also coordinates the activities of the three Research Centers at the University in collaboration with their respective Directors. Beatriz has a PhD Biology and 10 years’ experience in Basic Life Science.
Inês Domingues

Inês Domingues graduated in Biology in 2005 and started her PhD in Cell Biology at Instituto de Medicina Molecular (iMM, Portugal). During her PhD training, Inês travelled between iMM and the University of Illinois at Chicago (USA), studying the molecular mechanisms underlying the formation of new blood vessels that are also involved in tumour progression, using genomic and molecular biology tools. Inês has participated in several science communication actions and projects and after finishing her PhD in 2011 she started as a Science Communication Officer at the Science Communication and Outreach office at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC). Inês has developed innovative teacher training courses and workshops, multimedia programmes and resources and since 2013, she is the social media and digital manager of the IGC.
Maria Correia

CEDOC NOVA Medical School
Maria Serrano Correia is an engineer turned into scientist into communicator. Currently at NOVA Medical School, Maria is responsible for the science communication of the School, mostly focusing on CEDOC activities. M.S.Correia is accountable for the institutional communication, social media presence, press office and outreach activities. She is currently co-organising the Lisbon network FINCA PÉ meetings. Maria conducted her graduate research between Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência and Imperial College London, and obtained her PhD on Biomedicine from NOVA Medical School in 2014. Before, she worked at Novartis as a researcher and at SPI USA as science manager.
Rita Gil Mata

Rita Gil Mata works as a funding advisor at CRIA – Center for Research Support, Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences at the University of Porto. For the past 13 years, she has been working on both sides of research - either as a Research Manager, working with national and European funding and developing project management skills; or as a researcher, on the scope of her own PhD research (in Work Psychology). In the last five years she has been specializing into Funding Advisory tasks, giving direct support to application writing and strategic positioning for career advancement for researchers and young scientists. She and CRIA’s team have been responsible for organizing and hosting a Group STSM of COST BESTPRAC and are now preparing a series of lectures about science management for ESRs in the scope of PhD Programmes.
Teresa Sequeira Carlos

Teresa Sequeira Carlos coordinates the Science Management and Communication Office at UCIBIO and LAQV research units, in Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia - NOVA, since its setting up in 2014. She has a degree in Chemical Engineering - Biotechnology (Instituto Superior Técnico) and a PhD in Molecular Virology & Immunology (University of St. Andrews - Scotland). After a post-doc at the University of St. Andrews, she was a post-doc at Instituto de Medicina Molecular - Lisbon. In 2014, she did a post-graduation in Science Communication at Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas - NOVA.
Vanessa Borges

Vanessa Borges is the Public Engagement and Science Education Officer of the Science Communication and Outreach Unit at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC), Oeiras, Portugal. Vanessa graduated in Genetics and Microbiology at the University of Lisbon, Portugal (2006). She completed a M.Sc. in Genetics and Molecular Biology at the University of Lisbon, Portugal (2008) and obtained her PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology at the University College London, UK (2012). In 2014, Vanessa joined the Science Communication and Outreach Unit at the IGC with the main goal of promoting the dialogue between scientists and the society. Vanessa is mainly responsible for the organization of public events and science & education activities.
