Call to Order

Welcome – Joyce welcomed everyone and thanked hostess Jayne Kasten and co-hostesses JoAnn Boock, Martha Hooper, and Peg McFadden. Dorthy Preston had members think back to the beginning of the school year and what everyone would be doing. Some examples given were getting room ready, lesson plans, and class lists. Then she had members think about the fun we’re having not working such as no state mandates to meet, and gave us a few minutes to discuss summer activities.
Officer Reports
Treasurer – Donna Brown Treasurer report is a balance total of $4,080.15.
Committee Reports – Committee Chairs explained what their committee does so each member knows the purpose for each committee.
Announcements – Sigma Chapter has invited Pi Chapter to join them Monday, 9/22/2025 at 11:30 a.m. for lunch at McAlister’s Deli on 11969 St. Charles Rock Rd., Bridgetown, MO. It will be followed by the 1:00 p.m. presentation on “History of Donuts” at the Bridgeton Trails Branch of the St. Louis County Library, 3455 McKelvey Rd. Program – “A Year in the Life of Pi” Each table took turns reading aloud a paragraph of explanation and then the chapter sang the song associated with the information. The play gave an easy explanation of the events through the year for DKG.
Pi Chapter Executive Meeting Minutes 6/10/2025

Welcome: Joyce thanked the host and hostesses and those attending today’s meeting.
Adoption of Agenda: Karen Miller moved to adopt the agenda and Delores Penton seconded. Motion passed.
Officer Reports
Treasurer – Donna Brown reported Pi Chapter Finances. Account balance is $7531.25. Disbursements of $1020 to DKG International, $530 to MO State, and $236 Reimbursements. Donna reminded that all dues need to paid before June 30th: Active $71 and Reserve $36.
2nd Vice-President – Cathy Paulsmeyer reported that the October meeting will include an Induction Ceremony for Kathy Ryan and potential member Amanda Bensen who’s vote of approval will be taken at the August meeting. Delores reminded the group that Pi used to take their new members out to lunch to introduce them to DKG and she suggested that the chapter start doing that again.
Since our St. Louis Council is no longer meeting, Cathy reported that the Sigma Chapter invited Pi to their September meeting on the 22nd. They will be meeting for lunch at McAllister’s Deli on St. Charles Rock Rd. at 11:30 a.m., followed by a presentation on the “History of Donuts” at 1:00 at the Bridgeton TraiIs Library behind Kohl’s on the Rock Rd.
President – Joyce Bluett reported that at the MRTA is holding a Leadership Seminar on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the MRTA Building, 3030 Dupont Circle, Jefferson, MO. Guest Speaker is Karla Eslinger, MO Commissioner of Education. Joyce also encouraged members to join a DKG State Committees.
She reminded members that our first chapter meeting is August 23rd and has a Carnival Theme. Everyone should try to bring a new potential member. Committee members are to bring an item to share about their committee. School supplies donations are being accepted as well as supplies for a SEE teacher. Guen has a potential SEE teacher Pi could adopt. She is Ebony Thomas and will be teaching kindergarten in the Fort Zumwalt School District. She just finished volunteer teaching in Vietnam and will start teaching this fall.
Don’t forget to RSVP Dee if you are attending the Summer Activities so she has an accurate accounting.
Meeting dates for 2025-26 were agreed upon. Please mark your calendars for: August 23 at 11: a.m., October 21 at 5:30 p.m., December 6 at 11: a.m., January 24 at 1:00 p.m., March 10 at 5:00, and May 3 at 2:00 p.m.
Communication/Newsletter – Peg thanked everyone for their positive comments on the newsletter and encouraged members to send in Pi Positives, member share ideas and articles, book reviews, delicious recipes, and spotlights on members.
Dec Auction – Guen Tobias reported that this year’s Christmas Auction and Luncheon will be held on 12/6/2025 at Catering to You at 11:00 a.m. She reminded everyone that Pi is raising money for the scholarship fund. Please invite friends and please consider making a donation if you are not interested in auction items.
Selective Recruitment – Delores Penton and committee has selected three ladies to receive scholarships and are reviewing their schedules.
Research – Joyce reminded members that UMSL Library has archived Pi Chapter files. Must make an appointment to come in and review documents.
Mini-Grants – Delores Penton is working to assign a date to distribute to districts.
Chapter Rules – Cathy Paulsmeyer and committee have begun to revise Pi Chapter Rules.
Other – A suggestion was made that Pi host a game night where members could play cards or board games for a fun day. Another idea was to have a puzzle building day where each team builds the same puzzle.

President – Joyce Bluett – Pi chapter received the 5 Star Chapter Award, Newsletter and Online Communications Award, and 3 Roses for Supporting Early Educators Award at the state convention. Joyce also shared what a nice experience attending the state convention
Joyce also had a clipboard with a list of committees and list of meeting dates with host and co-hostess to be passed around so all members could sign up for their committee assignment along with which date they choose to host and co-host a meeting.

Scholarship – Dorothy Preston – The committee chose the following candidates to each receive a $1,000 scholarship. Kleyton Crate from St. Charles HS, Eleanor Judge from Webster Groves HS, and
Avery Sikma from St. Charles HS
Communication – Peggy McFadden – Peg explained how enjoyable the state convention was and invited others to attend next year.
Peg reminded us that the chapter donated $100 to Operation Food Search and asked if this is something the chapter would be interested in doing again. A motion was made by Dee Meyer to donate $100 to Operation Food Search and seconded by Jill Aul. Motion passed.
Announcements – Dee Meyer is setting up 2 dates for social meet ups this summer.

Welcome: Joyce thanked the host and hostesses for all the delicious lunch items and the sweet and salty snack items. She also thanked those able to attend today’s meeting and for being able to change the date of the meeting, giving the parking lots and sidewalks the chance to be ice free so no one has to take the chance of slipping and falling on ice.
Adoption of Agenda: Delores made the motion to adopt the agenda and Karen seconded. Motion passed.
Approval of Minutes: AJ made the motion to approve the meeting minutes for Tuesday, October 22, 2024 and Donna seconded. Motion passed.
Officer Reports
Treasurer – Donna Brown The December 2024 Auction and Luncheon profit was $1,859.28. Dues for 2025-2026 will be $71 which is a $2 increase due to State dues increasing by $2. The dues portal opens April 1, 2025. Donna will be able to accept dues after that date. All dues are due by June 30, 2025.
President – Joyce Bluett At the state meeting in April, it was presented that the Schools in Africa monthly collection will be replaced by Girls Fund. DKG and UNICEF are partners in operating this fund. Girls Fund was started after COVID since it negatively impacted girls’ education in Africa with the purpose to get girls caught back up.
Committee Reports
Communication/Newsletter – Peg passed out permission slips to be filled out by members. This is for members to give permission for their picture to be used on the website, emergency contact info, and member contact info. These are to be used at meetings if needed. Help with the newsletter is always appreciated. Send in your Pi Positives, member share, delicious recipe, spotlight of a member that hasn’t been shared, etc.
New Business
Professional Affairs – Rose shared that the Government Pension Offset and Windfall Elimination Act were repealed and the Social Security Fairness Act was passed. This will eliminate public workers who paid into Social Security from being penalized and who lost money from GPO/WEP.
Announcements – This year’s Christmas Auction and Luncheon will be held on 12/6/2025, the first Saturday in December, at Catering to You. This is the same venue where we were this past December 2024. They were very accommodating, the food was good, and reasonably priced. Next meeting will be a Potluck on March 11 at 5:00 PM at St Mark Presbyterian Church, 601 Claymont Dr, Ballwin, MO, 63011. Gloria will coordinate and Delores will help.

Mini Grants – Pat Reithmeier Only one mini grant request came in. It was from Clair Stevener who teaches 3rd grade at Castillo Elementary with the Francis Howell district. She would use the grant to obtain under desk pedals, chair fidget bands, and wobble cushions. The committee decided to award Clair $200. Chapter passed Clair Stevener as recipient.
December Auction/Luncheon – Guen Tobias Set up begins at 12:00PM. Drinks being available are lemonade, water and tea. Silent Auction items should not be used items or can be food items and a bid sheet needs to be with each item. Live Auction items should be items such as embroidery towels, themed baskets, glass pieces, and bake goods. Call Guen Tobias if you have questions.
Professional Affairs – Rose Brown will co-chair the committee. Members voiced that voters should vote no to the gambling amendment.

Treasurer – Donna Brown – Donna presented the treasure report. Pi has a balance of $6,177.51. Treasurer report was approved.
1st Vice President of Programs Mary Beth Powell – The program for the October 22 meeting will be Schools for Africa with Anita Palau as the guest speaker.
2nd Vice President of Membership Cathy Paulsmeyer – Cathy thanked Jayne for hosting the meeting. She also discussed how it would be nice for as many members as can attend the last St. Louis Coordinating Council DKG Fall Luncheon. Rich Gaynor, author of How Our Hearts Were Stollen, will be the guest speaker. His book is a beautiful love story of historic St. Louis bakeries. See pg. 14 of your handbook for more details.

Cathy brought up that at the Executive Board discussed Marsha Chappell to become an Honorary Member. Dee Meyer made a motion for Marsha Chappell to be an Honorary Member of Pi Chapter and Delores Penton seconded the motion. Motion passed.
President – Joyce Bluett – Joyce explained the set-up of the DKG Yearbook 2024-2025 since we have several new members.
Joyce showed “Handbook of DKG” and explained the use of it to see if members would be interested in it. Jayne Kasten made a motion to table the discussion until the Oct. meeting when the cost would be known. Mary Beth Powell seconded the motion. Motion passed.

Mini Grants – Pat Riethmeier – The application has been updated, applications become available at the beginning of the school year, and is due the first part of October. The selected applicants will be notified after the October meeting.
December Auction/Luncheon – Guen Tobias – The Christmas Luncheon date has been changed to Sunday, Dec 8th, 12:30-
3:00, at Catering to You on 12775 New Halls Ferry in the back of the shopping center. There is plenty of parking and no stairs. It will have a pasta lunch buffet. More details to come.

Rose Brown reminded members to submit Pi Positive announcements, good things happening in your life, so members can celebrate with you.
Kathy Ryan volunteers at Kids Smart and can arrange a time when a group could volunteer at Kids Smart.
At our October 22nd meeting, we will take up a donation for Judy Forney’s grandson who is a first-year teacher and moved into a room that had no school supplies or materials left from the previous teacher.

Newsletter – Dee Meyer & Peggy McFadden The newsletter will continue to include the Spotlight. Dee Meyer will continue monitoring the Spotlight. Peggy McFadden and Dee will consult together on the newsletter.
Mini-Grants – Pat Riethmeier Keri Thorpe applied for a Mini-grant. Pat Riethmeier informed the chapter that Keri would use the Mini-grant to buy supplies needed in various stations in her classroom. Pat also shared that the committee also recommends the Mini-grant applications be due by the end of September so teachers don’t need to wait so long in setting up their classrooms. Pat Riethmeier made a motion to accept the committee’s decision to award Kari a Mini-grant and to move the due date to September. Cathy Paulsmeyer seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Chapter Rules – Cathy Paulsmeyer The committee met and will send in to State improvements to our rules.

Make a donation to The International Women’s Day. Information is on the DKG International website. Key Woman Educator nominations are due by March 1, 2024. Send nominations to Joyce. Karla Eslinger is the newly appointed Commissioner of Education. She is a DKG member, and has been a state senator.

December Auction/Luncheon - Guen Tobias Auction was successful with proceeds of $3,004.50. Selective Recruitment - Dorthy Preston Female high school seniors need to fill out the form to apply for the scholarship. We have a committee of members that read through the applicants and choose the selected candidate(s).
Mini Grants - Delores Penton - No applications were received this year.
Old Business: New Treasurer needed.
New Business: New Picnic format/activity possibly skits. A motion was made by Cathy Paulsmeyer,and seconded by Karen Miller, motion passed. Judy Forney will no longer make the announcement flyers. Announcements will be sent in emails.
Chapter discussed donating $100 to St Mark Presbyterian Church for each meeting we hold there. AJ Walker made the motion to accept, seconded by Judy Forney, and motion passed.
Announcements: Next meeting is March 12th at 5:30. Pot Luck Supper- everyone brings a main dish, side dish, salad, or dessert.
