Workshop Expectations
Guidelines for Success
Prior to Workshop
Portrait - Contribute a personal portrait to the workshop photo album. A portrait should feature a centered head-and-shoulders composition, even lighting, professional attire, high resolution, such as would be used in a school yearbook. Change the title to include your name, followed by your school in parentheses: (eg. Norm Herr (CSUN)).
Multiple monitors - I strongly encourage you to connect a second monitor to your computer to allow you sufficient space to watch the Zoom window while simultaneously working on projects and responding to prompts. There are many monitors available for under $100. On Windows: Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings." Under "Multiple displays," select "Extend these displays" to use the monitor as an extended screen. On macOS: Open "System Preferences" and go to "Displays." Click the "Arrangement" tab and uncheck "Mirror Displays" to extend your screen.
Problems Solving - Review videos on problem solving & dimensional analysis.
During Workshop Sessions
WebCam & Microphone
Webcam On! - Please keep your webcam ON during class and during breakout rooms!
Lighting - Make certain your face is adequately illuminated.
Microphone - Please test your microphone before logging on. Make sure you can quickly turn it on/off at appropriate times
Virtual Background - Select a non-distracting virtual background. This will protect the privacy of your home and inhabitants and will prevent distraction.
Profile Photo & Name - Please upload a profile photo that will show when you turn off your camera when you need to take a break. In the top right corner of Zoom, click on the gear icon under your initials and click My Profile and add a clear portrait.

Homework
Key Problems -problem solving videos - I have created more than 100 step-by-step problem solving videos. The videos are designed to tutor you on the problem-solving stgrategies necessary for a variety of standard problem types.
Watch each video first so that you learn the problem solving process.
Next, try to solve the problem on your own. Use the video to check your logic, pausing periodically to see if you can solve the next portion of the problem on your own before watching it.
Homework practice - Please follow the homework schedule. The readings and problems align with course instruction. You will need to determine which types of problems you need practice with. Practice as many as you can. Please note that there are video solutions provided for each.
Review workshop videos as necessary . All sessions will be recorded and indexed. Look at the table of contents on the left side to see the specific topics covered. Simply click on those portions of the video you need to review.
Reading - Read any portions of the online text to review material with which you need more help.
