विद्या ददाति विनयं विनयाद् याति पात्रताम् ।
पात्रत्वाद्धनमाप्नोति धनाद्धर्मं ततः सुखम् ॥
Knowledge gives humility; humility makes one worthy; worthiness brings wealth; wealth enables righteous conduct; and from that comes happiness.
विद्या मित्रं प्रवासे च भार्या मित्रं गृहेषु च ।
व्याधितस्यौषधं मित्रं धर्मो मित्रं मृतस्य च ॥
Knowledge is a friend when one is away from home; a wife is a friend at home; medicine is a friend to the sick; and Dharma is the friend of the deceased.

अष्टमागेन ताम्रेण द्विभागं कुटिलं तथा ।
विद्रुतेन भवेत् कंस्यम् ॥
Bronze is produced by melting copper with tin in a prescribed proportion.
मर्दितपारदस्य यन्त्रस्थितस्य
ऊर्ध्वमधश्च निर्यक् निर्यातनं पातनं संज्ञितम् ॥
The movement of mercury vapour upward, downward or sideways from an apparatus is called distillation.
शुद्धवार्तास्तदा ज्ञेया सा कालः सत्त्वनिर्गमे ।
A white flame indicates the stage at which the metallic essence is being released.
स्वल्पतालायुतं कांस्यं वङ्कनालेन ताडितम् ।
मुक्तरङ्गं हि तत् ताम्रं घोषाकृष्टमुदाहृतम् ॥
Bell metal, treated with a little orpiment and heated with a bent tube, yields copper after the tin is removed.
मारणं तु यदा लोहे पुनरुत्थानकारणम् ।
"Māraṇa” is the process in which a metal is transformed into a form from which the metal can subsequently be regenerated.
वङ्कनालेन ताडनं ताडनं परिकीर्तितम् ।
Treatment by blowing through a bent tube to remove a metallic impurity is termed “Tāḍana”.
क्षाराम्लद्रावकैर्युक्तं ध्मातमाकरकोष्ठके ।
यस्ततो निर्गतः सारः सत्त्वमित्यभिधीयते ॥
The essence obtained by heating a substance with alkaline, acidic and dissolving agents is called Sattva.
