The National School of Physical-Chemistry will be located at Villa San Remigio, Via S. Remigio, 20, 28922, Verbania (Italy), from 19 to 23 June 2023.

Villa San Remigio is an historic building in the Lombard Baroque style, located on the top of Colle della Castagnola in Verbania Pallanza, on Lake Maggiore. Dating back to the early 1900s, it was the residence of the Marquis Silvio della Valle di Casanova, a Neapolitan poet and musician, and his wife, Sofia Browne, an Irish painter. The Villa is the result of a great work of recovery and transformation of the old building built by her grandfather, Romanesque of San Remigio (12th century), and of a large project dedicated to the greenery that still surrounds it today. The owners chose to create "the dream garden", a place where artistic forms and the beauty of nature can coexist in full harmony among terraces, majestic plants and varied essences. In recent decades it has hosted some public administration offices including the Province of Verbania. Here, the University of Eastern Piedmont is investing to create an extra moenia structure that can be defined as the "UPO Hub", i.e. a research, training and third mission facility. The idea-project is included in the logic that distinguishes the UPO opencampus in the Italian university panorama: to cultivate polycentrism, which is declined in widespread territoriality, plurality and variety, as a strong point for the University, for its students and graduates for the territories themselves. Villa San Remigio therefore becomes today a place of university training and scientific production, and headquarters of the UponTourism Study Center.

How to reach Villa San Remigio

1. By car: A26 Voltri-Gravellona Toce motorway, Baveno/Stresa exit – 15 km along SS34 in the direction of Verbania.

2. By plane: the nearest airports are Milano Malpensa (65 km) and Milano Linate (118 km).

3.     By train: Verbania-Pallanza railway station is located in the hamlet of Fondotoce (VB) and is 8.6 km from the Villa San remigio. Verbania-Pallanza can be easily reached from all Italian railway stations (http://www.trenitalia.com/). Bus services connect Verbania-Pallanza railway station with the city.

From Verbania train station, you can reach Villa Taranto (located approximately a 15-minute walk from Villa San Remigio) by taking buses 13 or 013 with a stop at "Verbania - Pallanza - Corso Europa, 66 - Istituto Ferrini Franzosini." The total travel time is approximately 20 minutes.

4. By bus:  Some useful information regarding transportation within the urban area of Verbania and the VCO (Verbano-Cusio-Ossola) region are reported here. Specifically, both intra-city and inter-city travels can be made using the bus lines “Linea 1” and “Linea 2”. "Linea 2" covers the municipality of Verbania, while "Linea 1" provides transportation from neighboring municipalities within the VCO (Verbano-Cusio-Ossola) region to Verbania.
