Welcome to the Introduction to Meteorology course! I am Michael E. Olson, professor of Mathematics and Physics at Snow College. Meteorology has been a part of my life for many years. I studied and earned a Baccalaureate degree in Meteorology from the University of Utah in 2008. I went on to study Space Weather at Utah State University, earning my Ph.D. in Upper-Atmospheric Physics in 2012.
After graduating, I moved to Daytona Beach, Florida, where I taught Meteorology and Physics for nine years. Early in that time, I was also asked to start teach a course in the physics of energy production.
I began teaching at Snow College in 2021 to teach Data Science, but was immediately asked to also teach Meteorology. I now also work as a weather reporter for KMTI radio every weekday morning.
This webpage is a collection of my lecture notes and material. I wanted to post them online so that everyone could have access to live data and see the changes in this field as time progresses. I would love to hear your comments on these notes. If you could send me comments on the quality of these notes, I would greatly appreciate it.
Once again, welcome to the course!
