The local area offers lots of options for exploration and relaxation. Here is a small sampling.
Ski
One of the bigger ski areas in Scotland, Cairngorm Mountain, is less than half an hour away. If there is a fair amount of snow, this might make for a good outing.
A half-day lift pass is £21, and equipment rental is about £30.
Hikes
There are tons of low-level hiking options, many starting right from our accommodation. If the weather is good (good visibility and low wind) and there is not much snow, higher-level hikes are a possibility as well. In Scotland one has the right to roam anywhere, as long as it is done respectfully. Some maintained trails can be found on OS maps and on Alltrails. Some of the nicer hike options include:
Circuit of Loch an Eilein (1hr), right by our accommodation, with options of extending e.g. up a nearby hill or to the next valley
Starting at Glenmore (15 min drive away), a valley walk to Ryvoan (2hrs), with optional extensions up a larger hill Meall a' Bhuachaille (4hrs) (also on Alltrails)
Starting at the ski resort parking lot, a loop up to the top of Cairn Gorm [Alltrails] (one of the highest mountains in Scotland), with a walk around the craggy edge of a plateau and down a broad ridge to return. ONLY to be done in good weather. Optional detour from the plateau to Beinn MacDuibh, the 2nd-highest peak in Scotland (2-3 hours extra).
Perhaps even more exciting is a long hike up to Sgòr Gaoith (if weather conditions allow), see https://www.mudandroutes.com/routes/walk-up-sgor-gaoith-from-glen-feshie/.
Cycling
If weather turns out to be mild, cycling/mountainbiking is another option. For example, cycling to Loch Einich. This is a rather straight-forward path leading to a beautiful low area surrounded by Munros, see https://www.komoot.com/highlight/83166.
Distilleries
Whisky and gin distilleries can be visited informally -- typically the shop offers tastings of a few products. Tours and more extensive tastings can also be done. For more than one or two people it's best to book tours in advance. Nearby distilleries include:
