Last updated: May 14, 2025
1. Introduction
Photo to Recipe Scanner (“we”, “our”, “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights concerning that information.
2. Information We Collect
User-Provided Content
Images: When you take or upload a photo of a dish, the image itself is used to generate a recipe.
Derived Data
Recipe Data: Dish name, description, cooking time, difficulty, ingredients, steps, and nutritional info generated from your image.
Device & Usage Data
Analytics (Optional): We may collect anonymized usage metrics (app launches, feature taps) to improve performance.
3. How We Use Your Data
Recipe Generation: We send your image (and only your image) to OpenAI’s API to identify the dish and generate a recipe. No other personal data is transmitted.
Local Storage: All images and generated recipes are stored locally on your device using UserDefaults (securely encoded). We do not use cloud backups unless you enable device-level backups.
App Improvement: Anonymized analytics may be used to optimize the user experience and diagnose issues.
4. Data Sharing & Disclosure
Third-Party Service Providers:
OpenAI API: To process images and generate recipe data.
Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, property, or safety.
5. Data Retention
All images and generated recipes remain on your device indefinitely, until you delete them or uninstall the app.
We do not retain any user data on our servers.
6. Your Choices & Rights
Image & Recipe Deletion: You can delete individual recipes (and their photos) at any time within the app.
Analytics Opt-Out: If enabled, you may disable analytics collection in Settings.
Device Backups: If you disable device backups, your locally stored recipes will not be backed up to iCloud.
7. Security
We employ industry-standard safeguards (encryption at rest, secure API transport over HTTPS) to protect your data. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
8. Children’s Privacy
Our app is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us for its removal.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect changes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
