The purpose of this template is to simplify the creation of photos required for passport and visa applications. When used correctly, photos processed with the template meet sizing requirements as denoted by the U.S Department of State (US Version) and UK Home Office Identity and Passport Service (EU & UK Version). The template produces a standard photo (4x6in US or 15x10cm EU & UK) document that can be printed at a photo lab.

The template has been tested and I used it to process photos for my passport. Basic instructions for use are included in the readme.txt file in the archive, or a tutorial with screen shots is available here. This template is designed for the full version of Adobe Photoshop and does not work with Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Before the inception of the Passport Photo Plugin for Adobe Photoshop (CS6, CC 2015 - 2022) and Adobe Lightroom Classic (v3-v6 or CC 2015 - 2022), most photographers had to rely on crude and cumbersome methods to come up with passport-sized photos when using Photoshop. One of these outdated 'methods' involved manually cropping up and re-copying an image as many times as the number of professional passport photos one needed. However, not only was this method inefficient but it was also time-consuming and tedious especially for highly-sought photographers who typically handle multiple client requests at a go. Therefore, it is not surprising that a majority of passport photo gurus had been waiting for this plugin.Using Passport Photo Plugin

Templates contain layouts for printing your photos, including any text overlays and print job settings. The Lightroom Classic Template Browser in the Print module contains premade templates for common tasks, such as making contact sheets. The Template Browser also lists custom templates you have saved. Moving the pointer over a name in the Template Browser displays its page layout in the Preview panel at the top of the left column. Clicking a template name displays a preview of selected photos in the work area. The preview updates when you choose a different template or specify different print options, such as add text overlays.

All templates have image cells for containing photos and margininformation. If you specify overlay options, a template can alsocontain text areas. The image cells and margins in a template scaleto accommodate the paper size you specify.

The rules for a visa photo size for Malaysia and photo size for a Malaysia passport are the same in general. To apply for a Malaysian passport at Official Malaysia Visa, you will need a 3.5x5 cm photo on a white background.

In addition to the size of the photo, when applying for a Malaysian passport, please specify additional image parameters such as head height or eye position. Head height should be 29 mm. The distance between the top of the photo and the top of the hair should be 10 mm.

Visafoto makes the photo of the needed Malaysia passport photo size and additionally takes into account such important parameters as the position of the head and eyes. Also, it displaces the background with plain white and increases the overall image quality.

As said before, you can instantly install the precise size of a Malaysia passport photo using Visafoto. But you can also crop the photo yourself in a digital photo editor if the simplest approach is not for you.

Taking a good starting picture for creating a biometric passport photo is easy. Ideally you have a helping hand for taking the photo, because shoulders and big parts of the upper body are shown on the final photo. Your arms usually are not long enought for this job and sadly a selfie (without a stick) won't work.

The file below conforms to the dimensions and layout as described in the photo guidelines section of the passport application document, available from your local post office. It will require a copy of Photoshop and some ability to use it of course.

The picture also needs to be clear, in focus, and in good condition; marks, scratches, or any kind of damage are not acceptable. You are not allowed to retouch the photo in any way. The background of an Australian passport photo has to be a plain and uniform white or light grey background; a simple white wall makes a good background as long as it is without shadows, patterns, or visible objects.

Just like with Photoshop, its more famous brother, you can create a passport photo with Lightroom, with the difference being that Lightroom specializes in color management of images and applying finishing touches.

The next feature that will undoubtedly come in handy when making a passport photo is the Lightroom Passport Photo plugin. With the help of the plugin, you will be able to use a new tool and a new set of settings to make sure your new photo is compliant with the size and measurement requirements.

Next, what kind of passport photo interests you on the left side of the screen and depending on what you choose, the program will show helpful lines on the photo. That way, you know where and how much you can move it.

For U.S. passport photos you want to use JPEG format, as this is the preferred option according to the official passport photo guidelines on the American government websites. Lightroom will enable you to save a file in this particular format.

This tutorial will show you how to take, format, and prepare your own passport photos. Rather than repeating what is already provided, please see the guidelines provided by the US Department of State. These will provide you with information regarding proper lighting, exposure, composition, and size. If you live in another country, please check for guidelines at your passport issuing authority as they will likely differ. For example, in Canada the final size can be as large as 70mm by 50mm, however, it appears as though they require a photo from a professional although that is not absolutely clear. Enough of this, let's get one with the process as it pertains to US requirements.

Hit CTRL-V (or select paste from the top menu) to place the photo onto the template. Move the photo to the top. Repeat for the second photo and move it to the bottom. As I mentioned before, commercial printing services may slightly resize your image so make sure the images are not on the edge. You may loose part of it. You are now ready to save the file and sent it to the printer.

Once you get the photo printed use a trimmer to cut the images to 2"x2" and submit them with your passport application. I printed mine on a Kodak Instant print machine, but if you have a good enough photo printer at home, you could probably use that. Check the State Department website for digital printing information.
