Photopea Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 18, 2026
Welcome to Photopea (“we,” “our,” or “us”). Photopea is a photo editing application for Android devices. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, how it is used, and your choices.
By using Photopea, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
Photopea is designed to process your photos on your device whenever possible. We do not require access to your entire photo library, and we do not sell your personal information.
Photopea collects very limited information:
When you select an image or PDF to edit, Photopea accesses only the file you choose through the Android system file picker. We do not scan your full gallery or request broad photo library access.
Edited files are saved only when you tap Save.
Photopea may store the following locally on your device:
Theme settings (light, dark, or system)
Favorite tools
Recently opened file references (file name, URI, and open time)
This data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers.
Photopea does not collect:
Your name, email, or phone number (unless you contact us)
Your full photo gallery
Location data
Contacts
Advertising identifiers for targeted ads
We also do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in the app.
We use the limited information described above only to:
Open and edit the files you select
Save edited images when you choose to save
Remember your app preferences (theme, favorites, recent files)
Improve your in-app experience
Most editing features run entirely on your device, including:
Crop, resize, rotate, and flip
Filters and adjustments (brightness, contrast, saturation, blur, sharpen)
Image compression
Draw, text, stickers, frames, watermark, and collage
Image to PDF and PDF to image conversion
Background removal for people may use Google ML Kit on-device models. Processing happens locally on your phone. Your images are not uploaded to our servers for these features.
Photopea uses the system document picker to open files, so it does not require broad photo read permissions on modern Android versions.
On Android 9 (API 28) and below, the app may request storage write permission so edited images can be saved to your gallery.
When you share an edited image, Photopea uses Android’s secure file sharing mechanism to send the file to the app you choose.
Photopea uses the following third-party component:
Google ML Kit (Segmentation) — used for on-device person background removal, subject to Google’s terms and policies.
We do not share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Edited files: Saved only when you choose to save them.
App preferences and recent files: Stored on your device until you clear app data, uninstall the app, or use in-app options such as “Clear recent.”
Support emails: If you contact us, we retain your message only as long as needed to respond.
We take reasonable steps to protect information handled by the app. Because most processing happens on your device, your photos remain under your control. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.
Photopea is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
You can:
Choose which photos to open using the system picker
Clear recent files from within the app
Clear all app data through Android Settings
Uninstall the app at any time to remove locally stored data
Depending on your country, you may have additional privacy rights. Contact us to make a request.
Photopea is available to users worldwide. Data processed by the app is handled on your device and is not transmitted to our servers for editing features.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
