Your Librarian

I graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a Bachelors degree in Special Education and Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Reading. I worked for 17 years in special education in both New York and Texas.  As a librarian, I opened a new library in Katy, Texas and purchased over 17,000 books for that library! In 2017 I moved to beautiful Northwest Arkansas and worked as a librarian in Fayetteville before coming to DTSOI.

I enjoy spending time with my husband Garrett and two adult daughters, Taylor and Lexie. I also enjoy cycling and hiking the hills of NWA and hanging out with my big standard poodle, Charles Wallace. Of course, I love to read all kinds of books. Some of my favorite authors include Jason Reynolds, Ruta Sepetys, Laura Hillenbrand.

DTSOI Library Dog, Charles Wallace

Charles Wallace is DTSOI's very own library/therapy dog. He visits one day per week and loves to hang out with staff and students.

SOME OF MY FAVORITES:

Jason Reynolds reads his poem, "For Everyone".

I could listen to this poem every morning. It is inspiring and motivating and reminds me that struggling for something you care about is a part of our journey.

I've read this essay over and over again. It is a reminder that we never really know the impact we're having on the students we teach but also, we never really know what gifts and passions students are hiding and afraid to share.  It's also a beautiful story about the power of books.

It's hard to pin down my favorite genre, my favorite book or my favorite author but if I had to pick one it might be Ruta Sepetys. I love historical fiction because it's often a story of strength and survival and Ruta comes close to telling my own family history in her book, "Between Shades of Gray".
