PhishGuard is a Chrome extension designed to help users detect phishing websites in real time. The extension scans website URLs using an AI-based phishing detection model and Google Safe Browsing verification through a secure Firebase/Cloud Run proxy.
Data Collected :
PhishGuard processes website URLs to determine whether a website is safe, suspicious, or potentially phishing. The extension may store limited scan metadata in Firebase, including domain name, detection status, risk score, detection source, timestamp, extension version, Google Safe Browsing status, trusted-domain status, and high-risk signal status.
PhishGuard does not intentionally store full sensitive URLs from banking, payment, email, government, or other privacy-sensitive websites. These domains are excluded from Firebase logging where possible.
Data Not Collected :
PhishGuard does not collect passwords, OTP codes, credit card numbers, banking credentials, personal messages, health information, precise location, or personal identification numbers.
Purpose of Data Use :
The collected scan metadata is used only for phishing detection, security analysis, system improvement, and academic research related to the PhishGuard project.
Data Sharing :
PhishGuard does not sell user data. PhishGuard does not use user data for advertising, creditworthiness, lending decisions, or unrelated purposes. Google Safe Browsing checks are performed through a secure Firebase/Cloud Run proxy.
Data Storage :
Limited scan metadata may be stored in Firebase Firestore. The Google Safe Browsing API key is stored securely on the Firebase/Cloud Run side and is not included inside the Chrome extension.
