About

Do you sometimes feel lost when people engage into name-dropping academically-theorized concepts like:

Utilitarianism, the virtue theory, categorical imperatives, metaethics, contrarianism, Free Will, compatibilism, existentialism, personhood, God, evil, the mind, the soul, epistemic responsibility, science and pseudo science, cartesian skepticism, empiricism, stoicism, knowledge, cosmological arguments, philosophical reasoning, philosophy?

Well, you’re not alone.

Words like these make one think that philosophy is and should be reserved to a few “chosen” people that have the opportunities - or condemnation - of spending hundreds of hours in philosophy department libraries thinking, writing and teaching others how to think.

Turns out that Philosophy simply and literally means “love of wisdom".

To some, philosophy’s goal is a systematic worldview.

You become a philosopher the moment when you can find a place to any fact, in heaven or earth.

Engaging in philosophical thinking is, under this perspective, like putting in order your own room to receive a guest: anything should find a place and, possibly, a reason for being where it is.

What Does It Take to Be a Philosopher?

Nowadays most philosophers are found in academia.

But, certainly, one does not have to be a professor in order to be a philosopher.

Several key figures in the history of philosophy did something else for a living.

Baruch Spinoza was an optician; Gottfried Leibniz worked – among other things – as a diplomat; David Hume’s main employments were as a tutor and as a historian.

Thus, whether you have a systematic worldview or the right attitude, you may aspire to be called ‘philosopher’.

Beware though: the appellation may not always carry a good reputation!

We strongly think that the world could be a better place with more education and acceptance.

So let’s do our best to promote these values through discussions of big and influential ideas/concepts that have been shaping the past, current and future course of our intellectual and leadership discourses.

Introducing Philosophy! A cercle de réflexion for a modern thinker. A members only cercle de réflexion dedicated to sharing the concepts that shaped our world!

This club-like group is for anyone interested in educational discussions about philosophy where you don’t need to be a graduate-level philosopher to understand it.

In chronological order, the thinkers and ideas that forged the world we live in are broken down, explained and discussed.
