For this project, our class was asked to formulate phrases based off of book titles that intrigued us. We then used these phrases in developing a prompt for our work. I settled on a phrase with a personally emotional meaning: "When the silent children reach for weapons of heart". This phrase brought my brother, Stephan to mind. He took his life in 2015 after years of mental strife. This is a piece that celebrates my brother's life, and the weapon he chose in order to speak to, and combat against inner pain. The body of his first electric guitar was sand-casted, then cold-worked. I then reapplied the guitar parts and stringed the guitar so that it functioned. 

This project speaks on personality archetypes given to me upon taking the Jungian archetype quiz. According to my results, I am equal parts of the archetypes wise old man and innocent child. Using this, I decided to create a magical staff that displayed both archetypes in unison. It is a staff that is meant to reflect both my inner search for wisdom of self, and the embracement of an opportunistic life to come. The black staff represents the first, while the colorful orb represents the latter. I created these components in the hotshop, and connected them while cold.
