About
I am a political theorist and historian of political thought, currently serving as Teaching Faculty at the Institute for Governance and Civics at Florida State University. I received my PhD in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
My research examines in what ways liberal and democratic societies ought to use memory, history, and narrative to sustain identity and belonging across time. Drawing primarily on the history of liberalism (Spanish, French, and American), I explore how divergent understandings of history shape civic life, national identity, and the moral imagination of democracy. I also write on the philosophy of history, politics and literature, and ancient and continental thought more broadly.
My work has been published or accepted in Political Research Quarterly, History of Political Thought, American Political Thought, The Political Science Reviewer, Polis: The Journal for Ancient Greek and Roman Political Thought, Laws, The European Legacy, Philosophy and Literature, The Seventeenth Century, and other venues.
