This is "Narcos" TV show on Netflix theme song. I kind of derived this idea from that show, and I think it fits well with my story if you would like to listen on as well.
Back in Colombia in the 1980s the drug war was just beginning to step up. The government had finally been taking a stance against the drug cartels. In southern Colombia the police had begun to raid cartels and seize their land and break up their operations. Now, there was a cartel called "Los Abandonados" or "The Forsaken" and this was a family cartel. There were three sons who when their father died were fighting amongst each other to be named the new family lead of the cartel. While the three brothers all had the same father, each had a different mother. Julio, the middle child, had a servant mother and he knew would never have the chance to take over the cartel so he always looked out for his younger brother Jose. Jose's mother's name was Julia; she was a sweet lady and always had taken care of her son, while watching over the other boys too. The oldest, Pablo, was an erratic soul and would rather see one of his brothers die than lose the chance of running the family business. Julio always had the back of his younger brother Jose, and he wanted him to run the family business.
Pablo heard that his father was favoring the younger brother because his mother was his favorite and was his current wife. Pablo decided that he needed to kill Julia to destroy the link between his father and his current wife, so he began to come up with a plan. He called up his first man, the captain. He told him that he invited his youngest brother over and that he was to go to Julio's home and light it on fire with his wife there. When Jose received the invite he was worried because he hadn't heard from his older brother in over three months, so he called up Julio and asked him to come with.
Julio warned his brother to make sure his mother was safe before they went over there that night, because Pablo could be up to no good. Jose called his guards and ordered them to watch over the house and her that night, and if anything happened to use the secret tunnel inside the house to get her out.
The two brothers hopped in their car and headed over to the oldest brother's residence. When they got there and entered the house Jose noticed that the captain was gone and made a worried look at Julio. Pablo was confident now especially since he had both the brothers under his roof, and there would be no one to protect his youngest brother's mother.
The captain was a loyal servant and he had sworn a blood oath to never let Pablo down. He got dressed and gathered his things and went to complete his mission. The captain arrived at the house and snuck around to the back and started to pour gasoline. One of the guards heard something outside and headed out there and saw the captain. The captain threw a match into the fire and started to run but the guard shot him down. Now the house was starting to catch fire so he got Julia and rushed her down the tunnel and went with her till they reached safety.
Julio and Jose headed back to the house after they ate dinner and saw that it had gone up in flames. Fearing the worst he started to cry and grieve. He saw a body by the house and it was all burnt up. Jose called his guard and the guard told him what happened. He assured Jose that they were safe and made it to the safe house at the end of the tunnel. Jose was furious and swore he was to kill his older brother Pablo.
Reading Notes-
In my story the Pandavas are three brothers. The brothers in my story all have different mothers, but mother of the youngest brother is actually Kunti from the Mahabharata. In the House of Fire the five Pandavas have a fight with their cousins but within themselves for power. So this story is more based around the actual action that took place with lighting the home on fire.
Prince Vidura in the story acts as my Julio. He is looking out for his family and his mother and when he hears of the plan to burn down the castle he digs a tunnel all the way out so if it does happen he can help his mother escape. Pablo in this story is Prince Duryodhana. In the real story they are cousins and fight against each other. However, in my story they acted as brothers.
The Prince Duryodhana waited for a good night and set the castle on fire. It also caught fire of another palace. They thought they had succeeded but the queen escaped and the five Pandavas. There were six bodies that were discovered and they thought it was them but it was actually Kunti and the five Pandavas. This story was mainly focused around the lust of power and problems amongst family members.
For my story I wanted to use something similar but also turn it into my own. I decided a drug cartel would be an interesting twist to the original story. I took the brothers from the original story and applied them with the same problem that faced them in the real story. However, the location changes and goes to something a little more exciting and dangerous.
