If you want a child-focused, volume-limited headphone for PS5, choose Philips Coolplay Kids On-Ear; if you need a lightweight, snug in-ear option for PS5, choose JVC Gumy Earbud Headphones. The Philips is the more thoughtful fit for a young listener, while JVC is the simpler choice when compact earbuds matter more than a child-oriented design.
• Philips Coolplay Kids On-Ear: Adjustable headband, soft on-ear cushions, and an 85 dB volume limit; its trade-off is a wired, on-ear design without noise control.
• JVC Gumy Earbud Headphones: Soft rubber body, snug in-ear fit, and a tangle-resistant cord; its trade-off is that it has no volume limiter or noise control.
• Choose Philips for a child who needs a headband that adjusts as they grow and a stated maximum volume.
• Choose JVC for someone who prefers small earbuds and a cord that is designed to resist tangling.
The Philips Coolplay Kids On-Ear is designed around a child’s fit and listening habits. Its lightweight, adjustable headband is meant to grow with the child, while soft ear cushions provide an on-ear fit. That combination makes it a more considered option for a child who may find adult earbuds uncomfortable or who prefers headphones that sit over the ears rather than inside them.
Its most distinctive feature is the 85 dB maximum volume limit. That gives a parent a defined ceiling on the headphone’s output, rather than relying only on the child to manage listening volume. The 32 mm neodymium drivers are specified for balanced sound. Philips also lists a wired 3.5 mm connection, which is a straightforward way to connect to a compatible device without depending on a wireless connection or charging.
For PS5, the Philips is the more child-oriented pick of these two. It is still a wired headphone, not a specialized gaming headset: the listed features do not include a microphone, active noise cancelling, or other gaming-specific controls. The 85 dB limit may appeal to families, but it does not make this an active noise cancelling headband headphone for PS5. Philips lists no noise control.
How We Research
We compare products from their published specs and features; the verdicts below are our independent editorial opinions.

Who should skip it: Skip Philips if you want earbuds, noise control, or a product with a listed microphone for voice chat.
JVC takes the compact route. These are in-ear earbuds with a rounded tip and soft rubber body, rather than headphones with a band and cushions resting on the ears. The listed snug fit may suit someone who wants a close-fitting, minimal design that takes up less space than an over-ear or on-ear pair.
The tangle-resistant cord is a practical detail for anyone who regularly pulls wired earbuds from a pocket or bag. The cord is listed as 3.28 feet long, and the headphones use a 3.5 mm jack. That gives the JVC a direct wired connection for a compatible device, including a PS5 setup that has an available headphone jack. Its dynamic drivers have a listed frequency range of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, but that specification alone does not establish how they will sound in a particular game or with a particular device.
These earbuds are listed for adults, and the sheet does not specify a hearing-focused volume limit. They also have no noise control. The snug in-ear fit is a design choice, not a promise that they block outside sound. For a headphone for PS5, JVC may make sense if the wearer prefers earbuds and wants a corded connection, but the listed information does not identify a microphone or low-latency gaming feature.
Who should skip it: Skip JVC if you need a stated volume limit for a child or prefer the support of an adjustable headband and cushioned ear placement.
• Best for a child-focused design → Philips Coolplay Kids On-Ear. Its adjustable headband, soft cushions, and child-oriented positioning make it the clearer fit for younger listeners.
• Best for a stated maximum volume → Philips Coolplay Kids On-Ear. The listed 85 dB limiter is a meaningful distinction; JVC has no corresponding limit in its specifications.
• Best for an in-ear fit → JVC Gumy Earbud Headphones. Choose it if you prefer rounded-tip earbuds over a headband and on-ear cushions.
• Best for a tangle-conscious cord → JVC Gumy Earbud Headphones. Its cord is specifically described as tangle-resistant and measures 3.28 feet.
• Best for an adjustable fit → Philips Coolplay Kids On-Ear. The headband is designed to adjust and grow with the child, while JVC uses a snug in-ear style.
• Best for a simple wired connection → Tie. Both list a 3.5 mm jack, so the deciding factor is whether you want on-ear headphones or earbuds.
• Best for a PS5 player who needs a microphone → Neither based on the listed features. Neither data sheet specifies a microphone, so do not assume either can handle voice chat.
• Best for someone seeking noise control → Neither. Both are listed with no noise control, so neither is the match if reducing outside sound is essential.
Before choosing either model for PS5, check the connection you plan to use. Both products list a 3.5 mm jack and wired connectivity, but the sheets do not describe a bundled adapter or guarantee compatibility with every setup. Think about where you expect to plug in and whether that connection is convenient for the person using the headphones.
Fit is the bigger day-to-day distinction. Philips rests on the ears and uses a headband that can be adjusted; JVC sits in the ears and has a snug fit. A child who dislikes earbuds may find the Philips design more suitable, while someone who finds headbands cumbersome may prefer the compact JVC form. These are different wearing styles, not interchangeable versions of the same product.
Also consider the listening environment. Neither pair lists noise control, and neither is described as having active noise cancelling. The JVC’s in-ear placement should not be treated as proof of noise cancellation, and the Philips’ on-ear cushions are not listed as a sound-isolating feature. If you are searching for the best low latency in ear headphones for PS5, the JVC’s wired connection is relevant, but the sheet does not provide a latency measurement or identify it as a gaming model. Wired connectivity avoids relying on Bluetooth for the audio path, but it does not answer questions about microphone support or every aspect of console compatibility.
Finally, weigh the child-safety feature against the fit preference. Philips has a stated 85 dB maximum; JVC’s specifications do not list a volume limiter. That difference can be more important than driver details for a family choosing headphones for a child. If the wearer is an adult and specifically wants earbuds, the JVC’s shape and cord may be the stronger practical match.
I would choose the Philips Coolplay Kids On-Ear for a child using headphones for PS5. Its adjustable headband, soft cushions, and 85 dB limit give it a more useful child-focused combination than the JVC offers. I would pick the JVC instead only if the wearer strongly prefers in-ear earbuds and does not need a stated volume limit. Neither is the one to choose for microphone-based chat or noise cancelling.
FAQ
No. Both are listed with no noise control, so neither is specified as an active noise cancelling option. The JVC’s in-ear shape and Philips’ ear cushions should not be mistaken for a listed noise-cancelling feature.
They use a wired 3.5 mm connection, which avoids relying on a Bluetooth audio connection. However, the specifications do not provide a latency figure or describe the earbuds as a gaming product, so they do not establish performance beyond the listed wired connection.
I’d choose Philips if the child prefers on-ear headphones and you value the listed 85 dB limit and adjustable headband. JVC is an adult-oriented in-ear design without a stated volume limit, so it is the less child-focused option. Check the current price on Amazon if you want to compare the latest pricing.
