"[Collégial international Sainte-Anne] encourages students to implement a personal project outside the walls of our academic institution. This 3-to-5-week project should provide a unique and formative experience, enriching their initial study program, whether it be Science, Social Sciences or Arts, Literature & Communication. In all cases, student projects must be multidisciplinary while requiring the effective use of competencies acquired over the course of their college studies. The integration project must represent an academic as well as a personal challenge for the student"

I am actively involved in my local community: the town of Pincourt. As I get involved, I act to make the administration of my town more democratic and more inclusive. As such, in this final research project, I decided to organize an analysis of the democratic institutions of an overseas locality. My objective is to identify the key actors of a participatory system, the participatory processes, and the communication means of the administration through interviews, legal analyses, and the observation of participatory democracy in action. I hope that the results of this project can inspire my town to adopt new practices and to act as a leader in the field of participatory democracy in Quebec to give citizens a larger stake in decision making.
In my research, Switzerland proved itself to be a model in the field of democracy with the use of direct democracy. Therefore, multiple comparisons can be made between the federal systems of both Switzerland and Canada. Specifically, Morges piqued my interest because of its demographics and its geography. Morges and Pincourt are both located near a larger urban centre that may influence their people's attachment to the smaller town (Lausanne and Geneva for Morges and Montreal for Pincourt). Morges and Pincourt also have similar populations: between 15 000 and 17 000 people.
