Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was established on January 13, 1913, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University with a mission to uphold academic excellence and support those in need. These trailblazing founders envisioned a sisterhood rooted in scholarship, service, and social advocacy.
Since then, Delta Sigma Theta has grown into a leading service-oriented sorority, boasting over 350,000 initiated members and more than 1,050 chapters around the globe.
Comprised predominantly of Black, college-educated women, the Sorority is deeply committed to addressing the pressing issues facing the Black community and, by extension, society at large. Over time, it has developed impactful initiatives in areas such as education, healthcare, international outreach, and family empowerment. These efforts are guided by the Sorority’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement.
