Dr. Azeem Ahmad is the Principal Investigator (PI) of the Phi Lab research group at UiT The Arctic University of Norway since 2023.
He holds two master’s degrees: an M.Sc. in Physics from Aligarh Muslim University, India, and an M.Tech. in Applied Optics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. He completed his Ph.D. at IIT Delhi, where his doctoral research focused on quantitative phase microscopy and optical tomography.
In 2018, he joined UiT The Arctic University of Norway as a researcher and postdoctoral fellow. In October 2023, he was awarded the prestigious FRIPRO Young Talent grant from the Research Council of Norway (RCN), recognizing his independent research profile and scientific excellence. Following this achievement, he established and currently leads a research group dedicated to advanced quantitative imaging.
His research focuses on the development of next-generation, label-free microscopy platforms, including quantitative phase microscopy, optical diffraction tomography, and fluorescence-based microscopy and nanoscopy systems. These technologies are aimed at biomedical applications, with a strong emphasis on high-resolution, non-invasive imaging of complex and thick biological samples.
