David Wetmore

David Wetmore joined the staff of Macomb Sr. High School in the fall of 1985. Under his direction the band has evolved to include Concert Band, Wind Symphony, jazz ensemble, two pep bands, and an active chamber music program. The band has received numerous awards including being selected as the honor band at the University of Illinois Superstate competition six times. In 2000 and 2007 the Wind Symphony was selected as one of the sixteen bands from across the United States to participate in the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Concert Band and Wind Symphony have received first division ratings at both the National Adjudicator’s Festival in St. Louis and the Grand National Adjudicator’s Festival in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Wind Symphony was selected as the Honor Band at both of these festivals. The Marching Band has numerous awards in addition to being selected to be a participant in the Indianapolis 500 Parade in 1996.

Mr. Wetmore attended the University Of Cincinnati College Conservatory Of Music and graduated from Youngstown State University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education. He received his Master of Music degree in trumpet performance from Boston University. His principal trumpet teachers were Roger Voisin, Boston Symphony Orchestra; James Darling, Cleveland Orchestra; Gene Young, Oberlin College, and Esotto Pellegrini, Youngstown State University. He has been a Summer Music Fellow at Northwestern University and has also done graduate study at Kent State University, Western Illinois University, and Illinois State University. He has been a recipient of the Jaycees Young Educator Award, the Wal Mart teacher of the year award and the National Band Association Citation of Excellence. In 2005 the Macomb Chapter of Rotary International named David Wetmore as a Paul Harris Fellow. In addition, Mr. Wetmore has been a presenter at the Mid-West Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago in 2000 and 2012. His professional affiliations include: the Music Educator’s National Conference, the Illinois Music Educators Association, the National Education Association, the Illinois Education Association, the National Band Association, the American School Band Directors Association, Phi Beta Mu and Pi Kappa Lambda. Still active as a performer, Mr. Wetmore is principal trumpet in the Knox-Galesburg Symphony Orchestra. He and his wife Marsha live in Macomb, Illinois and have two sons Michael and Matthew.
