The Society for the Study of Economic Inequality (ECINEQ) and the George Washington University's Department of Economics and Institute for International Economic Policy (IIEP) invite you to submit a paper/extended abstract for participation in the ECINEQ PhD Workshop, which will take place online on July 2nd, 2025. The workshop will bring together PhD students and leading scholars in the field, building community and creating a rich environment for dialogue. PhD students will present a paper, and receive feedback from a PhD discussant, senior scholars, and fellow workshop participants. Senior academics participating include Stephen P. Jenkins, Luis Felipe Lopez-Calva, Cecilia García-Peñalosa, and Alessandra Casarico, among others.
In addition to the workshop, the ECINEQ PhD Mentoring Lunch will take place in-person on July 8th, 2025, which is one day before the ECINEQ Conference in Washington, DC. PhD students will have the opportunity to interact with leading scholars to discuss their research papers during the lunch mentoring session. Senior researchers will be chosen among conference participants according to students’ field of study. Students are not required to be able to attend the in-person lunch in order to be selected to participate in the workshop.
We welcome submissions on any aspect of economic inequality. We encourage students from all disciplines related to economic inequality to apply, including, but not limited to, economics, economic history, political science, sociology and public policy. As the aims of the workshop and mentoring program are to provide feedback to PhD researchers, we prefer contributions that are not co-authored with established scholars.
To apply, please submit an extended abstract or a working paper via Google Forms: https://forms.gle/SumdDAXNkuAig6nE6. The deadline for submission is June 8th, 2025. Successful applicants will hear back by June 22nd, 2025. Submission should be in English, and papers may not exceed 10MB.
If you are a PhD student and have submitted a paper to participate in this years’ ECINEQ conference, but have not been accepted, you are welcome to re-apply for the PhD workshop. Applying to both events is not mandatory. For additional information please contact us: ecineqphd@gmail.com.
