Travel Information

The Faculty of physics, Sofia University, is located at 5 J. Bourchier Blvd, Sofia. 

The Faculty of Physics is approximately a 10–15-minute walk from Hotel Hemus. Alternatively, you can take Bus 94 or 102 from the bus stop in front of the hotel and get off at the “Seminariata” bus stop, located in front of the Faculty of Chemistry. The Faculty of Physics is located almost at the center of the campus.

Note on using public transport in Sofia:

On Monday, at the school's registration desk, participants from abroad will receive public transportation cards valid from September 7th to September 16th for all lines including metro. The cards have a barcode that you can scan at the ticket machine inside the vehicle to validate your journey. 

However, if you arrive on Sunday, or before the registration desk opens, you can follow the suggestions below: 

When using public transport in Sofia, we strongly recommend using your debit/credit card as a ticket. This is done by tapping it to the machines located near the doors in each bus/tram and at the entrance of the metro station. The price of a single ticket is 0.80 €. If paying with the same card during a single day, you will be charged 2€ at most (the price of a single day pass). If traveling by bus/tram/trolley always make sure to tap your card as soon as getting onto the respective vehicle. If for some reason your bank card does not work, you can buy tickets at the entrances of metro stations or from the drivers of the respective bus or other vehicle. If buying a ticket from the bus driver, make sure to scan its barcode at the ticket machine inside the vehicle.

Note on using taxi services in Sofia:

In order to avoid getting scammed by taxis we recommend using taxi applications when ordering taxis around Sofia (we recommend TaxiMe/Yellow). Most apps have a fare range when ordering the car, so you can If you suspect any wrongdoing by your taxi driver, always demand a receipt and contact the app support, they tend to be quite responsive.

Getting there:

From the Airport: 

(recommended) Metro: If traveling from Terminal 2 of the Sofia airport, you can take the metro directly from Sofia airport station to Serdica station (just to the left of the terminal exit), then change at Serdica station to the M2/blue line going to Vitosha station. The hotel is located right next to the European union station. If traveling from Terminal 1, there is a shuttle/bus 84 that connects Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, where the metro station is.

Taxi: A taxi from Terminal 2 of Sofia Airport to Hotel Hemus typically costs approximately €15–20 and takes around 20–25 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. The official contractual taxi operator at Sofia Airport Terminal 2 is Yellow! Taxi. You are advised to use only the designated Yellow! taxi vehicles available at the main taxi rank. The taxi stand is located approximately 30–40 meters to the right of the terminal’s main exit. Its exact location can be found here.

We recommend that you do not use taxi services offered outside the office of the taxi operator or in front of the terminal to avoid the risk of abuse. In any case, we recommend that you ask for an estimated fare before the journey begins.

From the Central Bus/Train station:

(recommended) Metro: You can take the metro from Central Railway Station in direction of Vitosha station. The hotel is located right next to the European union metro station.

Taxi: A taxi from the Central Bus/Train station to Hotel Hemus typically costs approximately €8–10 and takes around 10–15 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. In any case, we recommend that you ask for an estimated fare before the journey begins.

Note that the Sofia Central Bus/Train Station does not have an exclusive contractual partner or single official taxi operator assigned to its stands.
